“Fred giving a shoutout to Rockford with his busted tooth—I mean, that was half-hockey, half-basketball, all Rockford."
All NBA players have some level of impact. But few have had the effect VanVleet has had on Rockford. My final feature, for @Raptors: https://t.co/2iCDP9NW7w
I respect that Fox has been gutting things out for a while with that high ankle sprain, but he’s just been so poor. Hasn’t been able to provide the team with that veteran star presence, particularly in clutch situations, that they desperately need as a young group.
The thing with the Thunder is that, while SGA may be the one with all the answers to the test, there’s a boatload of other dudes who are going to score impressively high marks.
Castle, at 21 years old and in his first conference finals against a powerhouse OKC team, having to figure out how to be a primary initiator in real time without Fox (and now Harper) to lean on is an exceedingly difficult ask.
This post-season, there are only seven players averaging/who averaged 30+ minutes, a 60+ TS%, and a 25+ USG%:
• SGA
• Brunson
• Wemby
• Tatum
• Durant
• Scottie Barnes
• Castle
Wemby and Castle are 22 and 21, respectively. The next youngest player? Barnes at 24.
Dylan Harper. With Fox out, he played 46 minutes and turned the ball over once.
Once. Against the league’s top defense. In his first Conference Finals.
Forget being impressive for a rookie—that’s a high, high level of poise for any player.
@Anthonysmdoyle Gonna be difficult for sure. I think Barrett may have increased his value in this series, but the larger picture is murky at best. And, at worst, pretty dark.
I’d think there’s likely to be a lot of weight placed on internal development for the younger guys.
Regardless of how this series ends, it’s been enlightening. The Raptors have a number of pieces genuinely worth investing in long-term, and at the same time, their current flaws have been made stark.
If you would like a hardcover version, please reach out to me at any time, whether by email, social media, or otherwise.
As always, thank you all for your support. A book never happens alone.
It's here. My fable (in partnership with the ever-talented Josslyn Hagen), Riobard and the Townsfolk, is now available for purchase!
Here's where you can order a copy now:
Amazon: https://t.co/QXWKZmOvyY
Barnes & Noble (US): https://t.co/nomVGAAnwe
Please note: The book is currently available in two formats: Paperback and ebook. Hardcover copies are coming soon, but required a separate print run, and therefore will be limited in number and purchasable only through me.
I have a million Oscars noms thoughts, but I will only share one: If you have not seen ‘Sorry, Baby,’ please do yourself a favour. It’s one of the best movies of the year and the final scene will sit with me forever.
"This is an old tale. One of magic and shadows and fate. And the man who faced them all."
