The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption. #NoDeathPenalty
🚨NOW: The Trump Administration is currently holding preliminary discussions about cramming thousands of illegal aliens onto 500-foot-long ships and mass-deporting them to Central and South America via maritime routes.
It is estimated that this method of deportation would actually cost substantially more per illegal alien than the ongoing deportation flights, with speculation that this new method of maritime deportation would predominantly be designed to invoke fear among illegal aliens and encourage self-deportations.
It is also unclear what legal protections illegal aliens would have, if any, while transiting through international waters.
Claire Trickler-McNulty, a former senior ICE official in the Biden administration who also served as a career official under Obama, told the Times: “What ICE is functionally contemplating is prison ships.”
Worth noting, deportation ships were used in the 1950s during Operation Wetback until August 1956, due to an incident in which dozens of illegal aliens attempted to mutiny and commandeer the vessel. The mutiny failed and five illegal aliens drowned, with the survivors calling the experience “El barco del infierno” – the boat from hell.
