Whistleblower footage from inside Marshall Bioresources (MBR) shows what happens at its beagle breeding facility in North Rose, New York. The video shows staff training beagle puppies to wear inhalation masks before the company sells them to toxicology laboratories.
MBR charges labs an extra fee for this conditioning. It prepares the dogs for inhalation studies involving pharmaceuticals, including asthma drugs, as well as industrial and agricultural chemicals.
After 28, 90, or more than 120 days of inhalation testing, the dogs are killed. Technicians then examine their organs for toxic changes. Animal welfare advocates say these results do not translate to human biology and that the suffering is unjustifiable.
The footage has also put a spotlight on MBR Acres in Huntingdon, UK, where LabCorp has reportedly built a new inhalation unit. MBR Acres conditions beagle puppies before sending them to that facility.
In the 1970s, footage of beagles used in smoking experiments sparked global outrage, and many people thought the practice had ended. Campaigners say it never stopped, and that MBR has kept its inhalation work out of public view.
Animal rights advocates, including public figures, are now urging the public to apply the same pressure that helped free the Ridglan Farms beagles in the United States, and direct it at MBR Acres in the UK.
@LeGrove Pedro - if you don’t rate the player, that’s fine. But please don’t rely on the Spurs fans for justification. They thought he was their best player (and said they had the league’s best cb pairing) until he wanted out.
