Photographer and archivist Greg Jundanian is the next guest of our "Ancestral Journeys: Reflections on Land and Belonging" series.
On Thursday, June 11, Jundanian will share his journey to Arapgir, the region his family originates from, as well as his work preserving collective memory through the Armenians of Whitinsville archival project. The project documents a community established by Armenians who emigrated from the Harput region in the early 1880s, transforming family photographs, handwritten recipes, and audio recordings into digital memory.

Women of Rebetiko, brought to life by Lidya Durmazgüler, is an interdisciplinary memory and music project that creates space for the marginalized and overlooked voices of women in rebetiko music.
🎵 At this event, we will hear Lidya Durmazgüler's presentation on the historical and cultural background of rebetiko music in the context of the population exchange, followed by a performance focusing on the lives of women rebetiko artists.
The poet Zahrad often used cats in his poetry. In one of his poems, he included his cat Jondor among the family members who came to see him off.

Based on his own life, author Zaven Biberyan describes the trauma and change of a family that lost all they had with the Capital Tax Law.

On November 11, 1942, the Capital Tax Law was enacted, imposing a heavy tax burden on minorities, forcing them to sell everything they owned. Those who couldn't pay their debts were either forced to work or sent into exile.
