He’s advocated defunding the police. Described Israel as evil, genocidal and an apartheid state. Refused to say it has a right to exist. Gave excuses about an attack on a Michigan synagogue. Abolish all private medical insurance covering 180m Americans. Cosied up to and campaigned with Hasan Piker, who says America ‘deserved 9/11’. Even joined him at a pool party on Monday before election day. Tried to delete a lot of his previous extreme positions. Any more you’d like?
There is a reason the death of Rod Liddle has provoked such a swirling tide of grief among his millions of followers, including readers of this magazine, and that is that in the last 25 years Rod came to occupy a crucial position in journalism, and indeed in our country as a whole.
His columns became a haven, a refuge, in which he gave us permission to think things that are in fact common sense, but which have for some reason become taboo.

The SNP supported a supertax on energy companies in North Sea. Norway didn’t.
The SNP opposed any new licenses to explore/drill for oil/gas in North Sea. Norway has continued to issue new licenses — and we now import oil and gas from Norway’s North Sea fields adjacent to our own, which we won’t exploit.
Scotland runs the biggest budget deficit in Europe (about 12% GDP). Norway doesn’t.
A huge chunk of UK oil revenues have gone to cover this Scottish deficit over the years. Norway didn’t have a budget deficit to finance. So it was able to save revenues in a sovereign wealth fund
End of.
Tomorrow marks the 3rd anniversary of losing him.
It’s unbearable and still so raw.
In an effort to try and think of his legacy it feels appropriate to share details of the major fundraiser for his foundation.
More details of this special evening plus news of very ‘special guests’ to follow.
We would love to see anyone and everyone who wants to join us.
Many who follow me here are not in or near Somerset, and some may not be interested in this aspect of my family; but for anyone who does fancy a trip to the Westcountry; you are most welcome. 💚💛

I lost my beloved daughter Grace O’Malley-Kumar in the Nottingham attacks. She was a 19 year old medical student. She fought a marauding man almost twice her age armed with a dagger. She tried to protect a friend and paid the ultimate price. She placed,

Keir Starmer should rip up Ed Miliband’s “unnecessary” net zero agenda, Tony Blair tells #TimesRadio.
“It’s not that I'm a climate denier, but it's just coming to terms with this reality.”

IN plain English: we’re going to send a ton of money to the warmongering Kremlin regime for fuel while refusing further exploitation of our own oil and gas in the North Sea. Brilliant.
In 1971, Lucille Ball shared the stage with her daughter Lucie Arnaz and the legendary Ginger Rogers for a joyful Charleston performance on “Here’s Lucy” ✨💓
A beautiful moment filled with charm, friendship, and timeless talent.
Looks a pretty good gotcha to me — especially since Burnham is demanding a radical change for the Manifesto on which Starmer was elected. Where’s his mandate without an election?
Melika. 😢 Another heartbreaking and grotesque execution of a young person by the evil Islamic Republic mullahs.
Even in its death throes the monster keeps terrorizing the Iranian people.
