⚫ Shipwreck in the Central Med off #Libya!

After a group of around 30 people escaped #Garabulli on June 10th, the boat capsized some hours after.
Only five people were rescued, the others are missing.

Alarmphone alerted authorities about a group on a small rubber boat, the boat is losing air. People are panicking and in need of immediate help, but still there is no rescue in sight. Authorities need to act and order rescue!

More than 20 emails to the Italian Coastguard & 24 hours after our initial alert, MRCC Rome finally took the people in distress onboard their vessel. We're immensely relieved and glad the people are okay, as the delay in assistance could have well resulted in a different outcome.

Alarm phone alerted authorities about 37 people who escaped #Libya and ask for rescue. They are at sea for several days and water is entering the boat.

After alerting all authorities to the severe distress at 8:30 am, hours of non-assistance passed. Despite being only 40 miles off #Tunisia and 50 miles off #Lampedusa, it is thanks only to the #CivilFleet and #Aurora that the people were brought to safety!

Terrible news from Libya.

The Internal Security Agency has allegedly closed the offices of the Norwegian Refugee Council, Terre des Hommes Italia, International Medical Corps, Danish Refugee Council, Médecins Sans Frontières, CARE Germany-Luxemburg, INTERSOS, Acted, and Cesvi claiming that these NGOs were involved in acts that undermined Libya’s sovereignty and security and their attempts to settle irregular immigrants in the country.

We have never been able to reach the group of ~23 people we reported on. Their last known position matches the location of the shipwreck, but we cannot be sure that this is the group we alerted for. In a recent call, Cypriot authorities refused to share any information with us.

🆘 ~35 people on gas platform in the central #Med! We were alerted to a group fleeing #Libya, now stranded on the #Miskar gas platform. We lost contact to them 24 hours ago. Authorities & a merchant ship nearby were notified. Immediate rescue to a safe place is urgently needed!!

When trying to reach the people on this boat, the Tunisian customs authority responded, stating they were returning 60 people to #Tunisia. While we are relieved they survived, they were not brought to a place of safety.
