@AddressingLife For scans that aren’t urgent, MRIs are typically arranged as outpatient tests. This requires follow-up, coordination, and continuity of care, which EDs are not set up to provide. That’s why patients are often directed back to their GP, a consultant, or a physiotherapist.

Emergency Departments (EDs) are focused on urgent, short-term care rather than ongoing management. Because of this, they usually have very limited access to MRI scans, and in some hospitals they may not be able to request them directly at all.
