On March 28th, the Taliban arbitrarily arrested education activist @matiullahwesa. Matiullah has been traveling across Afghanistan for over a decade to campaign for girls' right to education. We demand the immediate release of Matiullah and all other civic activists.
"@MatiullahWesa's initial focus was on rural education, and asking the state to simply build schools in insecure, deprived areas" of Afghanistan -@Orzala. who has known the education activist since 2018

Unlike many of us, @matiullahwesa chose to stay in Afghanistan & continued the fight for education, despite threats from the Taliban. He is a strong voice for the country & is a true young leader. Wesa is now jailed by the Taliban. Please join the call for his release. #FreeWesa
Remember, @matiullahwesa has been speaking out about the lack of proper education access for boys and girls in Afghanistan since the Republic, when funds were stolen/squanderd by corrupt officials. Now, as he continues to campaign for all girls to return to school, he is arrested
Unconfirmed reports indicate that @matiullahwesa a fearless patriot and a relentless advocate for education (of girls and boys) has been arrested by the Taliban authorities in Kabul. We ask for his immediate release. #ReleaseMatiullahWesa
I first met @matiullahwesa in 2019 in Achin dist, Nangarhar. It had just been freed of Daesh. He and his brother were gathering residents to call for re-opening of girls and boys school (inc those destroyed in fighting). Now, reports he has been arrested by the Islamic Emirate
A national hero of #Afghanistan and a friend of mine has been arrested by #Taliban today: Matiullah Wesa.
He brought education to those who long for it, no matter where, no matter who governs there.
We will fight for your release, Matiullah!
