Medical school was an incredible journey with so many highs and lows, but I'm grateful for all the experiences.
Excited for the next phase. 🥳
28 years ago, my world came crashing down. I lost my wife during childbirth, a moment that changed my life forever. On that fateful evening, her water broke. She was in severe labor when 1 rushed her to the hospital.
I’m sorry but I’m not sorry, with all this stress I’ve been through just within the space of 2 months of my service year, I can boldly bèat my chest that corpers âre paying and even owing the FG.
The expenses, PPA Wahala, Accommodation brouhaha, payment this, payment that🥺🥺🥺.
To think all these are happening in a land I’m just so clueless âbout, I haven’t even settled, I still feel like a novice, like an amateur.
You guys, I’m drained 😢😢 ând super exhausted 🥺🥺.
PS: Forget the smiles, I’m going through a lot fr 😔😔.
I met a mother in the paediatric OPD today, complaining bitterly how his boy who used to be the brightest in his class suddenly started performing poorly when he started snoring at night.
She asked, does snoring makes children dull?
This is a valid complaint and the answer is not far-fetched follow me.... 👇🏾
Here is the exact endocrinology behind why your hunger magically disappears if you ignore it. 👇
• Most people think hunger is a continuous signal that keeps rising indefinitely until you finally eat. It isn't.
The primary hunger hormone is Ghrelin. It is highly pulsatile and conditioned to your habitual meal times. When your usual lunchtime hits, Ghrelin spikes, stimulating the hypothalamus to trigger an intense urge to eat.
• But if you skip the meal? That Ghrelin wave doesn't keep climbing. It naturally crashes on its own within an hour or two.
Simultaneously, as your blood glucose dips, your body senses a fasting state and unleashes counter-regulatory hormones: Glucagon, Cortisol, and Epinephrine.
• Glucagon immediately goes to work on your liver, triggering glycogenolysis breaking down stored glycogen and dumping free glucose directly into your bloodstream.
• Your brain detects this newly stabilized blood sugar. Combined with the faded Ghrelin pulse, the hypothalamus completely shuts off the intense hunger drive.
• You actually didn't magically stop needing calories. Your body just realized that external food wasn't coming, so it decided to eat your liver's glycogen stores instead.

A 1st-year med student asked me today: "Sir, if we feel extremely hungry but skip the meal, why does the hunger completely disappear after some time? Shouldn't it just keep getting worse?"
I am surprised most students don't know the actual endocrinology behind this.
Funny how we often tell people/our patients to reduce the intake of carbonated drinks or not even drink it all but guess what?
We health workers do take it once in a while if not all the time, lol 😂.
Please, always stay hydrated ând water is more preferable.
Hehehe 😂.

Today, the Association of Young Nigerian Nurses (AYNN) matched to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) branch in the School of post basic mental health nursing, Yaba
Although we had a setback as regards the turnout. Regardless, ALUTA CONTINUA
Our goal is to know the reason behind the delay of our certificates of registration since 2023.
We were able to speak with a representative officer of NMCN.
He assured us that steps are being taken currently to get the certificates ready, and soon, it would be available.
We pressured on that phrase "Soon" and demanded that NMCN should give clear information on why this has been held for this long.
We spent approximately 45 minutes in front of the office of NMCN demanding reasons behind the withheld certificates.
The rep couldn't give a clear reason because he said it was above him.
From a very notable leader in the profession, she said a board has been appointed, but the federal government — especially the presidency - needs to sign it.
We await the response from our Abuja team because they were able to see the registrar and a meeting was held.
