An Atlantic spotted dolphin On the Space Coast. Such a beautiful animal!

Our @HubbsMMS stranding team responded yesterday to a live Atlantic spotted dolphin stranded a short distance from our lab (Melbourne Beach, FL). This species is rare in our area & immediately identifiable by speckles that cover adults. Thanks @UCFTurtleLab & @MyFWC for reporting

Today @UnamakiShark is pinging in from the western edge of the Gulf Stream. It will be very interesting to see if she crosses back over to the eastern side or stays west all the way back up to Canada.

While expanding outreach efforts today on the Indian River Lagoon, we were happy to come across healthy-looking dolphins foraging and socializing! Remember, you should never feed or attempt to feed wild dolphins. Here’s a great example of their natural skill in action!

In all seriousness, I love our resident (calm and peaceful) pelicans at Coconut Point! They are truly majestic birds that love to obviously hang out all day :) Check out this footage captured in 2017 of IRL Dolphins and Pelicans right outside our Hubbs lab!

Major update: They’ve called in reinforcements! There’s a flock of birds headed directly towards the lab! Sorry @hubbschrisl, I think we may have to leave the building.

12:00pm update: it seems the pelicans have now recruited seagulls to stand guard. Brb, securing the labs and hunkering down.

9:45am update: the pelicans have multiplied. Takeover seems to be imminent now.

Convinced the pelicans at Coconut Point have an elaborate plan to take over our labs, decided to monitor them throughout the day. Will post findings later.
