@stevevance It took me half a year to go across town and check out who makes these, but I finally did it. These are called Retention Sockets and are manufactured by a UK company:

More bike parking should be architecturally sheltered like that. Such a small thing to consider when designing a building, but such a big difference for those who use it.
@stevevance Better yet have the mounting bolts safely hidden below ground. Bike racks should be permanent street constructions, not some temporary afterthought.
Eliminating just one piece breaks the cycle. However doing so seems ridiculous unless you see the whole picture. And that orange pill is pretty hard to swallow.
@Tellythecairn@bikenewyork This arterial exit into a residential area used to be a very dangerous place until it was put on a diet with a proper raised crossing.
@Tellythecairn@bikenewyork Other side of the world, but a very familiar situation. Mirror doesn't do much, feels like you're about to die each time regardless. Narrowing the road down to a minimum and raising up the crossing to cycle path level could help.
A perfectly decent bike shelter ruined by the fact that the racks are simply bolted to the ground. This is Decathlon, pretty sure they sell wrenches here.
When it comes to creating modal shift, itβs impossible to overstate the importance of sufficient, sheltered, and secure parking facilities.
They are a critical competent of any cycling network, and without them, infrastructure investments will never fulfill their true potential.
