@ClarenceT_ @SpiZy_Kane Are you trying to claim this is the same type of pressure shown in our video?

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

The change to the untarget defender feature is a step in the wrong direction for Madden.

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

@shidchillin I didn’t. I simply moved the user a step or two left.

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

This is just a quick example. The lb moves a yard left and it ruins the entire protection. The user can constantly move presnap and we can't afford to set our protection 19 times before the snap.

There are many other issues like this, and a simple fix is just untargeting that player.

Once they see we are untargeting, they can now send that 1 player, drop every one else, and get immediate pressure with 10 in coverage.

It's bad for the game, and it rewards poor defensive design. The simple counter should not be just send 1 (if he's untargeted) and that'll work against any protection that's almost forced to untarget to pick up generally

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

@shidchillin You’re using 1 controller, practice mode will play different at times if you’re not using 2.

You’re not accounting for the user. If the user moves the mlb 1 yard down (still 4-4.5 yards off the ball) the entire line now retargets and views the linebacker as an immediate threat.

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

Never asked to win 6 vs 5. But if they're sending 6 on the line, the offensive line should be able to pickup 5 of those people. There will be one edge that's free.

If you don't untarget the linebacker, they will only block the 4 inside guys, and you'll have two free rushers off each edge with 5 blocking.

If you add a tight end to the line, you're still going to get a free edge rusher every time with 6v6 unless you untarget the linebacker.

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

@shidchillin If they have 6 on the line, and you’re blocking 5. Both edges will come in free if you don’t untarget the linebacker.

The line sees the linebacker as a threat over the edge rusher on the line.

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

@shidchillin Because if you don’t untarget him, the tackles will let both edges run in free.

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

@Underrated714 ID the Mike doesn't work properly. If all mechanics worked perfectly, this could be a different story.

Completely agree we shouldn't need untarget, but it was an effective way of setting up appropriate pass protection for the popular blitzes online.

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

All of our football minds out there...

Can you point to a protection setup that tells an offensive lineman to take the play off if his pre-snap target/responsibility drops into coverage?

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

@MessagesRUS You can make up whatever story you'd like to fit your narrative.

Have a blessed day, appreciate the discussion.

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

@KyleMeranto You can untarget anyone on a play. You can also untarget multiple people on a play as well.

It works in both the run and pass game.

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

Having 3 blockers watch a defender walk right past them in a send 1 scheme makes people quit the game.

The end goal is to push towards more realistic features if you want the player base to grow. Nobody is going to be watching Madden and see 3 offensive lineman sit and watch a rusher walk past them, and then want to play the game.

It dumbs down the game, but more importantly it’s horrible visually for the game in all aspects.

People are failing to realize that “Untarget” does not mean “ignore no matter what”. It allowed the offense to essentially tell the offensive line who the bigger priority was if all of the players were blitzing.

[CC @TheActualCC]

Untargeting should in fact let them free.

Arguing realism in Madden though is laughable. As everyone adds super powers to their players daily.

More features = more complex = more confusing = less people wanting to learn.

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

Correct. But in real life they have the ability to set a priority, and the line will adjust if the first priorities drop into coverage. If they have the ability to recover, they will, and look to find work.

That's what the untarget feature has always done from the moment it was implemented. It allowed you to essentially set a priority of who was the most important to block to the least. If all the "most important" people dropped into coverage, the line would then block the "least important" people if they were in the immediate area.

No one is asking a 5 man protection to pick up 5 blitzers on a play regardless of who is untargeted. There are ways to design a blitz to still work if the offense is untargeting, we don't believe sending 1 person and the line watching him walk through is one of those designs, nor is it good for the game.

We're not asking for no responsibility if a player is untargeted. That player should be lowest priority. But if is the only rusher on a play, the line should adjust and block one person every time.

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

1. You know screens are an entirely different conversation, and you know that's not what's being discussed. If you don't recognize the difference, this conversation is going nowhere (afraid it's already to that point)

2. No team lets a 1 man rush run directly up the a gap untouched to "clear out passing lanes"

3. How does allowing a 1 man pressure running free up the a gap have to do with "over pursuing" to one side or the other.

You're acting extremely confident/knowledgeable yet haven't actually brought a real life argument to the table.

You're bringing up situations that have absolutely no relevance to what was being discussed, or to what the issue is in the game.

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

That's never been what untarget was there for, it was allowing you to create a priority of who is most important.

If you untarget, and they still send pressure with an overload/plus 1, the untargeted defender should come in free absolutely.

But if there is a lineman who now has no responsibility because everyone dropped into coverage, he should look for work and block a man running right at him.

We ask players all the time to adjust throughout the game, now we're asking the line to do the exact opposite.

There should still be a design behind a blitz. Send 1 and get immediate pressure should never be an option.

It will be terrible for the game moving forward, we'll just wait and watch it play out.

You're entitled to your opinion, as anyone is.

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

If they are actually sending an appropriate blitz, of course the untargeted player should come in free as you set.

But a lineman who now has no responsibility watching someone run right by his face and freezing is not only terrible for the game, it's also something that is extremely unrealistic.

You continue bringing up "real ball" or to "learn ball" but only when it fits your narrative.

Could you point to an offensive line coach who would tell his players to give up on the play if their pre-snap target dropped into coverage? Or would that player be taught to look for work at that point?

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

More people are agreeing than disagreeing.

Never expected everyone to share the same opinion.

But you don't want the offensive line to do anything if their initial assignment/target drops. I would like the line to have basic logic (as they would in "real ball") to readjust and look for work.

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

@MessagesRUS You saying "learn ball" is the funniest part of this entire thing...

Never in the history of real ball is a player taught to ignore a defender at all cost. If your original assignment drops into coverage, you look for help, regardless of what the pre-snap assignments were.

[Huddle.gg @HuddleGG]

You're wrong on almost everything here, let's break it down.

1. This is a random play to show how horrible the logic is for the lineman to stand and do nothing after their initial responsibility drops into coverage. This was not a video to show the route combination. It was to say there should never and would never be a hot read against a drop 9 coverage that's still getting instant pressure.

2. No QB, in a video game or real life, is going to get through 4 reads in less than a second, with a free rusher up the a gap.

3. Y is not actually open on a play like this. I'm using two controllers and the second controllers user is on the safety, who would be covering the Y. You can see in the video the LoS Safety does not move on the play because I do not have 4 hands to control both the offense and the defense. If you try to throw a slot wheel route against off man coverage, you're throwing an interception.

4. You keep bringing up the db's being in an off alignment. Off coverage does not grant easy access throws in Madden the same way you'd see it in real life for example. Off Coverage does a pretty good job in general against hitches/slants/outs/etc. You can't live on those in Madden. That is not to account for the other 4/5 people dropping into different coverage to fill the "quick throw" areas.

5. You can always watch a video and pause the video to show something that "looks open", but that's not always the case. You proved that by saying Y is open, but Y is on a slot wheel, and assuming the second controller user was not on the safety (would not be the case in game), that would be a pick six if thrown.
