Adam Lawford (mugshot needed) has been banned from keeping animals for five years after brutally attacking Brandy, an 11-month-old cocker spaniel, in a public street.
Witnesses watched as the terrified puppy tried to escape between parked cars. Lawford grabbed him, shook him, lifted him into the air and slammed him onto the pavement. Brandy appeared unconscious at one point.
Then, in a shocking escalation, Lawford picked the young dog up by his back legs and tried to put him in a recycling bin as members of the public intervened.
Brandy suffered bruising, abrasions and wounds consistent with the attack. A veterinary assessment also identified psychological trauma.
Lawford denied wrongdoing and claimed witnesses had fabricated their accounts. However, he was convicted after the court heard witness evidence and viewed CCTV footage. The judge described the incident as an “appalling offence”.
His punishment? A five-year animal ban — with the right to apply to have it lifted after just three years.
He also received a two-year community order, including 120 days of alcohol abstinence monitoring, a £360 fine, £700 in costs and a £144 victim surcharge.
For many, the question will be whether a ban that can potentially be lifted after three years offers sufficient protection for animals.
Thankfully, Brandy survived. After being signed over to the RSPCA, he recovered and was eventually rehomed.
An important reminder of this case.
🚨 ANIMAL CRUELTY CONVICTION | AARON CHAPMAN, 29, BODMIN, CORNWALL
Aaron Chapman brutally killed his pet cat, Lord Biris, after becoming enraged because the animal had eaten his cannabis.
The self-employed builder and bodybuilder swung the defenceless cat around, repeatedly striking him against the floor. Despite the animal needing veterinary treatment, Chapman instead cut his throat in what the court described as a “deliberate and gratuitous act”.
Witnesses were left horrified by the “most horrendous, vicious, assault” on the helpless animal.
Chapman pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal between December 2018 and January 2019. He also admitted destroying a former partner’s mobile phone.
Sentence: 18 weeks in prison. He was ordered to pay £205 and banned from keeping animals for life.

A reminder of this animal abuser who violently beat a puppy to death.
Thomas James Eddinson, from Gainsborough, beat one-year-old Jack Russell Oreo to death in a sustained attack while caring for his partner’s dog.
A post-mortem revealed horrific injuries, including a ruptured liver, extensive internal bleeding, bruising across his body and damage to his brain and eye.
Afterwards, Eddinson sent his ex-partner a video taunting her about what he had done.
In March 2021, he admitted causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. He received an 18-week prison sentence, suspended for two years, 150 hours of unpaid work and a 10-year ban on keeping animals.
The court heard he had experienced foster care, mental health difficulties and dyslexia in mitigation.
Oreo lost his life in a brutal attack. Eddinson avoided imprisonment.

🚨 ONE TO WATCH - BLUEGEONED DOG TO DEATH WITH A SAUCEPAN
🚨 JORDANNA LEIGH WHEELER
🌎 LOUGHOR, SWANSEA
Jordanna Leigh Wheeler bludgeoned her dog, Anubis, to death with a saucepan after returning home drunk from a party.
She later told hospital staff she had woken up covered in vomit and discovered she had “battered him to death”.
Police found the large brown Mastiff dead on his bed. A severely deformed saucepan bearing dog hair was also recovered.
Wheeler was originally given a suspended prison sentence and a 10-year ban on keeping animals, but she repeatedly breached her curfew, skipped rehabilitation sessions and missed probation appointments.
She also admitted leaving home to visit pubs and parks and take cocaine.
Last week (March 2026), Judge Geraint Walters activated the suspended sentence, jailing her for 12 months, with up to half to be served in custody and the remainder on licence.
Anubis suffered a horrific death.
Wheeler was put behind bards, but only after repeatedly breaching the order imposed following his killing.
