@photosbyglenn Making sure that the reporting is read. And I am always very keen to ensure that we speak to our readers as equals with our respect, not people we are seeking to lecture or "educate." Hope that offers some insight into why I structured the story that way. Hugh
@photosbyglenn Write in a way which ensures that what we have reported will be read. I do very little real reporting these days, but I edit with that in mind. I fear that the failure of many media outlets in recent years has been in part because not enough thought has gone into /
@photosbyglenn Simply starts with "it wasn't a stunt." And while I don't write specifically to persuade, it seemed to me to be important to focus on the chronology of emotion/rational thought and show my own journey. I do think that it's the job of a journalist not just to report but to /
I was in the @whca dinner ballroom and thought for a while it was a “stunt.” This is what I think now—and why it’s OK to think it was staged. And please check the comments on the story https://t.co/5zyQWgDWmj
@photosbyglenn Hi @photosbyglenn Thank you for your apology. I hope you’ve come to understand more of what I wrote. Incidentally, I don’t think the ability to simply post your thoughts without editing and consideration is healthy, so I appreciate your re-consideration. Hugh
@JToile87033 Hi Johnson Toile. Wishing for people’s death or harm seems a bit of an extreme reaction to an article you didn’t like. Would you say that thought directly to a neighbor? I hope you find some peace.
@brad_h43 Hi Brad H. I and many others saw agents and officers bravely run in. Some had weapons unholstered and some of those had their fingers extended on the trigger. Here’s a photo of one agent which I took—zoom in closely.
@JohnLithiumLI I’d be interested where you come down on this. I bet you’ve had to have your bag checked at say a theatre or stadium, without feeling that you’re dealing with an assault on freedom. Hugh
@JohnLithiumLI Hi @JohnLithiumLI I’m no advocate for a “police state.” I reported on these clear failings because they put thousands of people at unnecessary risk from a man allegedly armed with two guns. There is clear blue water between putting bags through an x-ray and the end of democracy/2
@miscellany101 That journalists should boycott events when that is at odds with our duty to witness and report. A boycott is a political act. As a reporter, I don’t seek to shape the world, but to reflect it. Hope this helps you understand our presence. Hugh
