Now the real fight begins.
The proposal still needs City Council approval before voters get to decide.
Generation after generation of Councilmembers have passed the buck on the most important policy decisions facing our city.
Follow @LosAngelesFwd to make sure that ends.
🚓LAPD working with ICE
🎯Deploying teargas and foam bullets on peaceful protestors
🚫Pretextual traffic stops targeting Black & brown communities
City Council doesn’t currently have the power to set LAPD policy. That could soon change thanks to a decision last night.🧵
This is a MASSIVE shift from where the process started.
The Charter Commission originally wasn’t going to consider ANY police reforms. But community groups made sure Angelenos’ voices were listened to so we can build a safer city.
We live in a city where more people die from traffic violence than homicides, but City Hall and our political institutions don’t act like it.
Everyone deserves to get where they’re going safely, no matter how they travel.

There is no legal basis for this and no plan to get out. The world is less safe because of this reckless and illegal act.
I stand in solidarity with everyone who demands peace, and with the people of Venezuela as they experience this chaos and uncertainty.

Trump promised to end foreign wars. Now, he’s launching them — invading Venezuela, kidnapping a foreign president and his wife, and destabilizing an entire region for oil.
The Untied States has tried overthrowing governments it doesn’t like before & it never ends well.

In solidarity with our allies in NYC who are fighting back against Airbnb. When we have a housing crisis in our county, we need to protect tenant and stop Airbnb’s greed.
NYC is facing a housing crisis. Now, proposed legislation advanced by Airbnb would make it worse by turning our homes into hotels, driving up rents & gutting housing protections. Housing should be for us, not for generating windfall profits for Airbnb. Reject Airbnb & its bill.
This position DOES NOT speak for the full City Council.
The LAPD should NEVER be permitted to use force against journalists or anyone peacefully exercising their first amendment rights.
We introduced a motion to LIMIT LAPD using projectiles at protests and to join most major cities like NYC and Boston in utilizing a “graded response” model during protests where heavily armed officers are kept in reserve and only used if the situation escalates to violence.
@caanet This is the closest we've been in 40 years to updating this system, and we need to see it through.
Visit @KeepLAHoused and https://t.co/eOOR6L8tK8 for info/updates and come to the Housing Committee TOMORROW to make your voice heard.
LA’s Housing & Homelessness Committee is meeting TOMORROW to consider capping rent increases at 3% for every rent-stabilized tenant in the city.
This could determine the rent next year for you and and 1.1 million of your neighbors.

Now, the corporate landlord lobby is funneling energy to protect profits at the expense of working people.
Groups like @caanet claim to champion small landlords, but they'll never mention that LA *already* allows landlords to apply for exemptions if they can’t afford the cap.
The suspension of @jimmykimmel and the promise to silence other Late Night hosts for criticizing the administration should disturb everyone on the Right, Left, and Center. It’s wrong and anyone with a conscience knows it’s wrong.
