Thurs front pages: @BorisJohnson announces plans to send people fleeing torture & war to offshore processing centres in Rwanda
Do you see what he is doing?
Hi @Gibbo4Darlo, I’m Shams & you’re my MP!👋The plan to send refugees to Rwanda is staggeringly cruel. The people it will affect are like me - they're like you. Fathers. Sons. Humans.
I urge you: be on the right side of history. Oppose offshoring & vote against the #BordersBill
In #Ukraine, Prosecutor #KarimKhanQC spoke with BBC World News: “We need to demonstrate that international justice is relevant to people’s lives, that we can move quickly and effectively. People need to see the law in action.“
We’ve joined 150+ orgs in calling on the Prime Minister and Home Secretary to scrap their unthinkably cruel plans to ship people seeking refuge to Rwanda. Instead, they must create humane and effective solutions to protect refugees #RefugeesWelcome

"All these people have done is to come here to seek safety and we are punishing them."

People seeking safety should be housed in our communities, not military sites.

I'm deeply saddened by the loss of life and damage as a result of the flooding in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa, and offer my condolences to the families of the victims.
The @UN stands ready to support.
We ask the Government to urgently rethink these plans; the offshoring of human beings should play no part in the UK’s asylum system.

One country already ships their refugees abroad - Australia.
The UN has said Australia’s system violates the convention against torture.
12 people died at one of their camps through neglect and suicide.
And THIS is the system we’re copying?!

📻 "I fled the Taliban as a single man, should I not be protected?"
Our CEO @sabir_zazai spoke to @BBCRadioScot Lunchtime Live today about the UK Gov's disgraceful plans to send men seeking protection to Rwanda.

The agreement that will be announced today means that #LGBTQI+ people who have fled life-threatening situations and sought safety here will instead be sent to a country where it is not safe to be LGBTQI+.

Experience shows these agreements:
- are eye-wateringly expensive
- often violate international law
- lead to the use of widespread detention
- lead to more smuggling, not less
With this deal the UK is looking to shift its responsibilities towards refugees, not share them.
Prime Minister says that "anyone entering the UK illegally, as well as those who have arrived illegally since January 1st, may now be relocated to Rwanda".
In principle that would include Ukrainian refugees who have entered the UK via Ireland.
Offshoring people 5,000 miles away is a grubby cash-for-people plan and a cowardly, barbaric and inhumane way to treat people fleeing persecution and war.
