On this day back in 1974, work was progressing well on both sides of the estuary. The North Tower had just reached full height, while the caissons (the concrete islands the Barton Tower sits on) were being installed. Both anchorages were also taking shape.
The joy with stunning aerials like these is looking at the surrounding areas and picking out familiar spots, such as the train line through Hessle and Far Ings Road on the South Bank.
On their radios, workers were probably listening to Sugar Baby Love by The Rubettes, which was no.1 in the UK charts. And they were possibly looking forward to seeing The Sting or The Exorcist in the cinemas - or maybe taking the kids to see Herbie Rides Again.

Wilberforce watching over Hull and the new Queenโs Gardens. 5 years since the first version. The line of sight through Queenโs Gardens, The Rose Bowl, City Hall to the centre of The Humber Bridge is very pleasing! @StoryHull@HumBridgeNews@HullMaritime
