Good fact from my old producer Robert Hum: since 1980, the S&P has posted a Q1 gain 28 times. Only 4 of those times has the index found itself posting an annual decline that same year...has almost always rallied the rest of the year after a good Q1 start.

Retailers are seeing margins miss estimates due to higher costs and increased markdowns. And they're seeing sharp margin compression compared to year-ago levels too.

$INTC is the buzzy dividend cut today. We've seen other cuts this earnings season.

$RIO cut its full-year payout by 53% from a year ago. Lower commodity prices also caused $BHP to cut its dividend 40%.

Earlier in Feb., $HBI eliminated its dividend & $VFC cut its payout by 41%.

A rare miss for $CMG as consumer spending tightened.

First EPS miss since Feb. 2021. Just the 2nd EPS miss in the last 5 years.

It's also the first time $CMG has missed on BOTH EPS & revenues since October 2017, according to Refinitiv.

Yes, $XOM & $CVX have made a bundle of money. But their profits are still dwarfed by $AAPL and to an extent $MSFT & $GOOGL

Amid all of $INTC's problems, how much longer can/will it stay in the $DJIA? It presumably would be a prime candidate to be replaced. As the lowest-priced stock in the index, it has the least impact.

Mkt cap is similar to $AMD, less than $QCOM. $NVDA too high priced for $DJIA

$NFLX reports tomorrow afternoon. Don't forget it will no longer provide subscriber growth guidance. It'll focus more on revenue.

Slowing revenue growth has been a major problem too. $NFLX expected to post record low rev. growth for the 2nd straight quarter (up just 1.7% YOY)

Think egg prices have gotten expensive? $LW - which produces all types of frozen potato products (fries, hash browns, tater tots) said prices soared 30% YOY in the latest quarter - outpacing potato costs. Meanwhile $CAG, which owns a variety of food brands, said prices rose 17%.

Bed Bath & Bankruptcy? A dire warning from $BBBY. It's operating as a "going concern" and could explore bankruptcy. It's delaying its 10-Q. Liquidity has been an issue in working w/vendors to get products on shelves. Sales & losses will be worse than ests in the qtr ended Nov 26

Prices are so high that conventional eggs have been more expensive than premium eggs.

$FDX still struggling with ongoing demand problems. Shipments in the latest quarter fell below pre-pandemic levels for both U.S. Express and Ground services.

U.S. Express volumes have plunged 15% from a year ago, while Ground volumes are down 9% YOY.
