(3) After weeks of work day and night, the water was diverted as a temporary solution. It wouldn't be until much later when the United States Army Corps of Engineers built concrete aprons to stabilize the waterfall.

(2) The next day a plan was hatched to plug the sinkhole by throwing in as much big material as could fit (the piano was only a rumor, but it's fun to imagine). However, shortly after Mother Nature would have the last laugh as all that effort was destroyed by the powerful water.

(1) On October 4, 1869, a tunnel that was being built underneath the Saint Anthony Falls collapsed. This created a sinkhole in the river so bad that the falls were in danger of collapsing, which meant the Hydropower plants would also be in danger too.
