I keep seeing people talking about Christa Pike saying her arm was burning during the execution attempt. And I understand why that’s getting attention.

But I also think there’s a part of this story that gets forgotten far too easily.

Colleen Slemmer was only 19.

Then came another disturbing detail: after Colleen died, Pike reportedly kept a piece of her skull as a souvenir.

Behind all the headlines, prison coverage and discussions about executions, there was a 19-year-old woman whose life was brutally taken.

And according to the medical examiner’s testimony, Colleen was still alive while many of those injuries were being inflicted.

Her life ended after she was repeatedly struck in the head with a piece of asphalt. The injuries to her skull were catastrophic.

She had a large wound across her neck, along with numerous other injuries to her throat. A pentagram had been carved into her chest, and she had defensive wounds consistent with trying to protect herself.

What happened to her was horrific.

The medical examiner described injuries covering her body, her back, arms, stomach, chest, face and throat. There were so many wounds that he eventually stopped trying to count every single one.
