The Islamic Revolution and the Rise of Iran’s Supreme Leadership
History remembers moments when nations reclaim their identity — and leaders who emerge to guard that transformation.
In 1979, Iran witnessed one of the most consequential revolutions of the modern era. The rule of the last monarch, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, came to an end after widespread popular uprisings against foreign influence, political repression, and rapid Westernization that many Iranians believed threatened their cultural and religious foundations.
From exile returned a revolutionary scholar, Ruhollah Khomeini — the first Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic and the architect of a new political philosophy known as Velayat-e Faqih (Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist). This doctrine established governance rooted in Islamic scholarship, combining republican institutions with spiritual authority.
Ayatollah Khomeini consolidated the revolution by:
• Establishing a new Islamic constitution approved by national referendum.
• Creating revolutionary institutions to protect the ideals of independence and sovereignty.
• Reorganizing the military and founding the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to defend the revolution internally and externally.
• Replacing monarchical structures with an Islamic republic guided by religious legitimacy and popular participation.
Among Khomeini’s closest revolutionary allies was Ali Khamenei — a cleric shaped by years of resistance against the Shah’s government and imprisonment for revolutionary activism.
Serving as President from 1981 to 1989 during the Iran–Iraq War, Khamenei became a symbol of national endurance in a period defined by sacrifice and unity. After Ayatollah Khomeini’s passing in 1989, Iran’s Assembly of Experts selected him as Supreme Leader, ensuring continuity of the revolutionary vision.
Over the following decades, Khamenei consolidated leadership by:
• Strengthening state institutions under the authority of the Supreme Leadership.
• Expanding the role of revolutionary organizations in safeguarding national sovereignty.
• Promoting self-reliance in science, defense, and regional diplomacy despite international sanctions.
• Preserving ideological continuity between religion, governance, and national identity.
Supporters viewed his leadership as a defense of Iranian independence and resistance against external pressure, maintaining the revolutionary principle that political destiny should remain in Iranian hands.
The Islamic Republic’s story demonstrates that revolutions are not merely political events — they are civilizational turning points shaped by belief, sacrifice, and continuity of leadership.
History is written by nations that refuse to lose their voice.
NEW: Venezuela launches a nationwide manhunt after Nicolás Maduro’s arrest by U.S. forces.
A state of emergency decree orders police to "immediately begin the national search and capture of everyone involved in the promotion or support for the armed attack by the United States."
Following very closely the situation in Venezuela. We stand by the people of Venezuela and support a peaceful and democratic transition. Any solution must respect international law and the UN Charter.
With HRVP @kajakallas and in coordination with EU Member States, we are making sure that EU citizens in the country can count on our full support.
Now you know why Putin was worried about NATO activities in Ukraine. They know what that is possible. If Russia didn’t have nukes, NATO would have invaded Russia.
Merry Christmas to all, including the Radical Left Scum that is doing everything possible to destroy our Country, but are failing badly. We no longer have Open Borders, Men in Women’s Sports, Transgender for Everyone, or Weak Law Enforcement. What we do have is a Record Stock Market and 401K’s, Lowest Crime numbers in decades, No Inflation, and yesterday, a 4.3 GDP, two points better than expected. Tariffs have given us Trillions of Dollars in Growth and Prosperity, and the strongest National Security we have ever had. We are respected again, perhaps like never before. God Bless America!!! President DJT
Ahmed, you are an Australian hero.
You put yourself at risk to save others, running towards danger on Bondi Beach and disarming a terrorist.
In the worst of times, we see the best of Australians. And that's exactly what we saw on Sunday night.
On behalf of every Australian, I say thank you.
Kenya’s young environmentalist Truphena Muthoni has made history by hugging a tree for an astonishing 72 hours, setting a new Guinness World Record. The 22-year-old wildlife activist began her challenge on December 8, 2025, and completed it without eating or sleeping for three straight days.
Truphena was aiming to surpass her previous record of 48 hours, choosing a silent and peaceful protest to raise awareness about deforestation while appealing to people’s conscience.
“The significance of this peaceful protest is that it transcends differences. Unlike other demonstrations, this approach avoids conflict and touches humanity directly,” she explained. Truphena added that the tree-hugging experience is therapeutic and reinforces her urgent call for environmental conservation.
Her achievement drew widespread recognition, capturing the attention of national and local leaders alike. The marathon was officially flagged off by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, a strong supporter who encouraged Truphena to push past her previous limits and break the record.
The 72-hour tree-hugging feat not only highlights Truphena’s personal dedication but also serves as a bold statement against environmental degradation, inspiring citizens to take action for nature.

Suluhu Cornered as International Community Flags Extrajudicial Killings and Electoral Failures
A coalition of Western embassies and the EU has issued a strong joint statement on the crisis in Tanzania, expressing deep regret over the loss of lives and injuries following the elections.
They cite credible reports of extrajudicial killings, disappearances, arbitrary arrests, and the concealment of bodies, and are urging authorities to release all bodies to families, free political prisoners, and allow detainees full legal and medical access.
The statement also calls on the government to uphold constitutional freedoms, implement AU and SADC recommendations on electoral flaws, and ensure that any inquiry into the violence is truly independent and inclusive.
