VIDEO | Cyclone Montha: South Central Railway CPRO A. Sridhar talks about precautionary measures and train disruptions. He says,
“Due to the cyclonic conditions prevailing along the coastal areas, Indian Railways has so far cancelled 122 trains, while a few others have been regulated, rescheduled, or diverted. In total, around 160 trains have been affected.
Most of these trains operate between the Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada sections, which are likely to experience the impact of the cyclone. Therefore, services on those routes have been cancelled.
Particularly, trains starting from south Indian cities such as Bengaluru and Chennai towards Howrah and Assam, as well as some trains bound for Secunderabad, have either been cancelled or rescheduled. Overall, 122 trains were cancelled, around 29 rescheduled, and eight diverted."
Brain’s Waste System Breakdown Linked to Dementia Risk
A large-scale study of 40,000 adults has found that disruptions in the brain’s waste clearance system—the glymphatic system—predict future dementia risk.
This system, which relies on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to flush out toxins, appears to be impaired by cardiovascular risk factors like high blood pressure and poor sleep.
The findings suggest that when CSF movement slows, harmful proteins such as amyloid and tau can build up in the brain, contributing to dementia.
Researchers say improving sleep and managing vascular health could help preserve brain function and reduce dementia risk.
"This is a deathwatch," Carl told me calmly. "I'm going to die." "No," I protested. "You're going to beat this, just as you have before when it looked hopeless." He turned to me with that same look I had seen countless times in the debates and skirmishes of our twenty years of writing together and being wildly in love. With a mixture of knowing good humor and skepticism, but as ever, not a trace of self-pity, he said wryly, "Well, we'll see who's right about this one."
- Ann Druyan (Epilogue to Carl Sagan's last book Billions and Billions)
“A book is made from a tree. It is an assemblage of flat, flexible parts (still called "leaves") imprinted with dark pigmented squiggles. One glance at it and you hear the voice of another person, perhaps someone dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, the author is speaking, clearly and silently, inside your head, directly to you.
Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people, citizens of distant epochs, who never knew one another. Books break the shackles of time ― proof that humans can work magic.”
