I would have been the first student martyr of the #APSPeshawar massacre but I was fortunate enough that the bullet hit the wall instead. The shooter shouted ‘Odreka’ meaning ‘Stop’ but I hid behind the pillar and two more shots were fired.

People around me bothered me the most. They never let me forget my disability. I was laughed at and called names. I would get upset and fight, but people wouldn't stop making fun of me.

- What do you want to become in the future?
"What is a future?"
- What do you want to be when you grow up?
"A future.”

Now I would work to help people around me, regardless of their racial or religious background. I want to live life to the fullest. I hope the future brings never-ending peace and prosperity to Quetta and all the world citizens.

I lost hope and forced myself into not returning to the campus after my university bus became a victim of a roadside bomb blast in June 2012. Terrorist attacks were expected in Quetta back then and, to some extent, still are.

Working hard is the key to success for many Pakistani graduates, but my degree cost me much more than that. I lost many great people from my Hazara community along the way - let alone the occasionally reoccurring haunting memories of that bomb blast.
I was 4 yrs old when I went through horrible sexual abuse for the first time at the hands of our servant.
My father passed away when I was only a year old. My mother moved to her parent's house & started working as a teacher.

On the night of my eldest sister's wedding, her husband spent it with another woman. Only because this marriage took place due to the elders' decision, and my brother-in-law did not like my sister.

Losing my mother six years ago was the trauma that stayed with me for a very long time. I was depressed, anguished and felt obligated that I have to do something in her memory.

I grew up in a war-torn area of Pakistan, North Waziristan. I spent my childhood in a locality where sounds of gunfire were as normal as the sound of a motorbike with a faulty silencer in Peshawar.

Everything was going in full swing, and just then the country faced a global pandemic that changed everything. My students; who had special needs and belonged to very humble backgrounds; were restricted to their homes.

Six years ago, my daughter was diagnosed with a deadly virus called GBS. Doctors told me that if the treatment gets delayed, the virus could enter her lungs and paralyze her body, eventually leading to death.
I didn’t have a single penny left, following the test...
