Who vetted your contractors? Why is the taxpayer having to shoulder the bill of your incompetence? Why does the Govt fail at the most basic things like maintaining already built roads? It’s a mess.

Have you asked MPs about how many times we were silenced and suspended for raising points of order on the illegal conduct of the Speaker in carrying into effect recalls by Tshabangu despite clear communication to him concerning who had the mandate to write on behalf of CCC?

Have you asked MPs what happened when we tried to raise a point of order concerning the abduction and torture of Hon Takudzwa @ngadziore?

Have you asked MPs what happened when we tried to raise a point of order concerning the abduction and murder of Bishop Masaya?

Have you asked MPs what happened when we tried to raise a point of order concerning the illegal ban of recalled CCC MPs from running in the by-election?

Have you asked MPs about how committee hearings were hijacked by ZANU PF in the lead up to the budget statement after the Speaker suspended us contrary to the clear terms of the Standing Orders?

Have you asked MPs how many times we had to fight off armed riot police with our bare hands when we tried to speak up on issues of national interest that made Zanu PF uncomfortable?

Have you asked MPs what happened when we raised a point of order stating that recalls were happening despite a court interdict against the recalls being in place?

Have you asked MPs about the time Parliament refused to conduct pre-budget and post-budget consultations despite the legal requirement that these must take place?

Is it viable to only be allowed to speak on issues that don’t make Zanu PF uncomfortable?

Do leaders get into Parliament for “gravitas” vis a vis diplomats and the international community or do they do so to speak truth to power on behalf of the constituencies that elected them? When that is no longer possible because of the capture of Parliament by regime apparatchiks, are they carrying out their constitutional mandate by remaining there?

Are you aware that many have spoken on large domestic and international platforms without a parliamentary position and made a compelling case for the need for change in Zimbabwe? Do you know that several citizens have engaged state institutions including the Reserve Bank, constitutional commissions and other public officials without being in Parliament?

Have you heard Zimbabweans speak at the UN in Geneva, at Africa Development Conferences abroad, at various human rights summits and respected fora without being MPs? Are you seriously contending that one has to be an MP to be heard, taken seriously or hold your “gravitas”?

Is it true that if you don’t carry the title MP you cannot speak “with gravitas” or “engage diplomats”?

As @EricMatinenga rightly pointed out, how can you speak of a person resigning “on their own accord” where there is abundant evidence of constructive dismissal? Are you aware that constructive dismissal by definition exists where one is forced to resign from their post against their will because the organization has made continuation in that role intolerable?

It is a matter of immense regret that you continue to underplay the role played by Tshabangu, Zanu PF and other abused state institutions in destroying the ability of Parliament to function as a true voice of the people. Instead, you focus on the inevitable consequences.

For the record, there’s a difference between “giving up” as you regrettably charge and refusing to participate in legitimizing a dirty agenda that aims to extend the regime’s term beyond the Constitutional limits even if the cost is torture, murder and silencing the very voices you claim should speak in Parliament.

I can speak for my own constituency and say that they did not vote for me to be silent about their concerns, be blind to the issues that matter most, wine and dine with their oppressors and start dancing to the tune of a regime that has caused them untold suffering.

🟣Nobody who is being true to the chronology of events would suggest that we resigned “of our own accord.” That’s the bit that’s not factual. In fact, it’s disingenuous.

Have you already forgotten the events that led to the resignation? Are you forgetting that whole blocs of MPs were illegally recalled? Are you forgetting that after being illegally recalled, their by-election campaigns were attacked by violent thugs? Are you forgetting that campaign team members were abducted and murdered with zero accountability? Are you forgetting that sitting MPs were abducted and tortured while the perpetrators who were caught on video were never brought to book?

Are you forgetting that our members were banned from contesting for no reason? Are you forgetting that ZANU PF gold mafia members were then handed seats uncontested? Are you forgetting how the will of the people was desecrated in Bulawayo?

Are you forgetting that each time we took the system on in Parliament we were silenced, removed from parliament by armed riot police and suspended? Are you aware that they’ll only let you speak on matters that don’t offend them? Why should Zanu PF dictate who sits in Parliament? Why should they prescribe what we can and cannot say? Why should those chosen by the people be banned?

In what way is the current configuration of Parliament still a legitimate voice of the people? Why is Tshabangu in Parliament? Why should Tshabangu have the power to whip MPs and dictate policy positions in Parliament when he openly works with Zanu PF? Is that what the people voted for?

The brazen assault on our democracy and the complete disregard for the will of the people is what calls for urgent introspection.

The mayor of Zimbabwe’s second-biggest city, David Coltart, has said that he believes a political party that seeks to bring democratic order to a country must be democratic itself.

The Bulawayo mayor said that while there might have been moments when the so-called Strategic Ambiguity was necessary, it can’t carry on indefinitely.

Coltart said that he is against politics that center around an individual, through personality politics or around ethnicity or race.

The mayor said Zimbabweans should unite around ideas and not personalities!

Thomas Mapfumo has shown that there are still principled people out there after he rejected gifts worth US$500k from the crooked one.

Thomas Mapfumo even rejected a house in a world where some people now live in mental squalor with immoral and corrupt minds.
Many don’t care that they are taking cars bought by money meant for hospitals, schools, roads, clean drinking water etc.

They have selfish and corrupt minds and only think about their greedy selves and nobody else!!

Their minds are bankrupt and see nothing wrong with praising convicted crooks and criminals stealing from them as Mbinga.

In such a world, it is worth noting the ethical actions of the few like Mapfumo and Shadaya who still have a moral compass and are resolutely principled.

The importance of integrity, principles, and standing against corruption can never be over emphasised, it is the heart and soul of a fair society, one which doesn’t steal from the poor and throws crumps st them in exchange for immoral applause.

An ethical stance in rejecting gifts that were bought through corrupt means is a powerful statement about the courage to act on one's principles.
