Big thanks to CBS for having me on to discuss the passing of Birmingham’s new city budget. This is the largest budget we’ve ever passed—and it addresses some of our city’s most pressing needs, from neighborhood revitalization to public safety and infrastructure.

On Tuesday, the Council unanimously approved the purchase of 16 new drones for the Birmingham Police Department. This cutting-edge technology will enhance our emergency response times, allowing officers to arrive at scenes more quickly and assess situations more effectively.

We’ve seen great success in other municipalities with this drone technology and we look forward to seeing this integrated into our police department's resources as we continue our work to make Birmingham safer and more responsive to our community’s needs.

We've made a true economic impact in the Central Alabama Birmingham region by recruiting conventions and events, helping organize funding for the Stallions, and supporting the new Coca-Cola Amphitheater. Today, Senate Bill 330 passed the House, and I'm extremely disappointed in this outcome. Despite our collective efforts to maintain local control of our water system, the state legislature has moved forward with its plan to take over the BWWB.

While this is not the result we hoped for, I am hopeful that we can work together to ensure that the 91% of Jefferson County residents and 42% of Birmingham residents who are BWWB ratepayers receive the best possible drinking water at the lowest possible price.
