I was today years old when I learned the Taser was inspired by a 1911 children’s novel.
Its inventor, NASA researcher Jack Cover, named it after Tom Swift and His Electric Rifle — featuring his childhood hero.
The name TASER stands for “Tom A. Swift’s Electric Rifle.”
