To put air pollution in perspective here's a fun fact. It is equivalent to smoking 15-30 cigarettes and kills more people than HIV, malaria and influenza combined. #Lesson11#CO2
#Lesson11 explained how and why the Earth is warming in such a simple, non-bias, and factual way. I need all the people who don't believe in climate change to please take this course!! #Phys273#WarmingEarth
@hum_christopher yes, I am not asserting that mitigation is the sole thing we should be doing. I am merely stating what I feel the focus should be on in terms of funding in countries like Canada.
We NEED to focus on mitigation right now.. although here in Canada we aren't necessarily experiencing the effects of climate change in the same ways as Kiribati (look into their changing situation due to sea level rise) for example, it's coming!! #lesson12 ๐
here's some food for thought... who thinks pandemics are going to become more and more prevalent as we continue on this path of destruction?? Just something to munch on.
The IPCC report is such a vital tool in not only dissecting our current climatic circumstance but in addressing how to change or manipulate the path we are currently on. THANKFULLY the graphs/charts with along with their descriptions break it down for us science amateurs too ๐ ๐
@mario_phys I really appreciated lesson 10, our water and air are very obviously vital. Learning about these things more in depth is so important in our current circumstance. no more taking abundance for granted!
@MiccoStephanie unfortunately this fix is just as temporary as it's cause (hopefully). what we need to do now is use this time to keep that progress going even beyond the pandemic... I am not too optimistic though :(
The ocean & forest are carbon sinks which means they absorb the carbon from atmosphere. When we cut down forest & burn trees we are releasing all that carbon into the atmosphere and a lot of that then gets absorbed by the ocean, resulting in ocean acidification #lesson11#carbon
