As its reference season:
As the nice consultant you’ll always be asked (more than others for sure) for the references/assessments/help with rotas/general advice but in a few years I get senior doctors ready to help me with anything.
@YSewpaul03@DrLKVaughan Would also say that UK med school has become so watered down that it sets people up for failure at postgraduate exams. The amount of relearning and further learning I had to do for MRCS Part A was staggering
First meet in almost a year. 74kg class debut
9/9 attempts. 575kg total. 227.5kg squat, 120kg bench, 227.5kg deadlift. >3x bodyweight squat and deadlift ✅ Onto the next!
This is a potentially massive area of research that very few, if any, have explored. Absolutely ripe for the picking and wide open. I'm desperate to do it but way too busy so will jealously read whatever you publish, but someone please do it.
RCP EGM has been leaked: https://t.co/ufwxyIGYGi
It starts badly with poorly presented data and gets somehow worse. If you want to watch a panel of people ignore questions about patient safety and PA scope of practice for two hours, this is the link for you.
This is problematic @RCP. Conflating positive and neutral demonstrates a worrying bias & suggests you have not listened properly to your members but are trying to massage results. Please correct to separate out positive, neutral and negative. Academic standards matter.
Please read this excellent piece.
Partha’s right. This is indeed a seminal moment for UK medicine.
Is the rigour of a medical degree required to practice medicine - or not?
Does MRCP mean anything - or not?
Are the standards trainees must meet necessary - or not?
Well?
@RCPhysicians#RCPEGM highlights:
1. RCP has financial interest in PAs
2. BMA membership = declaration of interest
3. No evidence that PAs have any negative impact
4. Retired physicians vote, trainees do not
5. Question authority and be ignored (see video)
Truly extraordinary
VITAL question by @DrAsifQasim at #RCPEGM;
“We know we may have to take a financial hit on this, but I am deeply concerned that we will take a substantial patient safety hit if we don’t act to pause (PA expansion)
RCP Response:
“We’re running v short on time”
UNBELIEVABLE!
Yes I came back to twitter just to post this as I’m so disappointed in the RCP. Really can’t believe some things I’ve heard. Astonished at fellow consultants, but I’m also grateful to those (eligible to attend) who spoke up with points of common sense and caution #RCPEGM
@doctor_oxford@thedoctorkhan@RCPhysicians I’m still processing what I witnessed today. It felt like there was deep contempt in the room towards those raising genuine concerns over training, patient safety and the future of the medical profession. No listening. Very sad. Totally unnecessary. Stubborn. Odd. Bizarre.
