Recently, the 2026 Pointtech SOFC/SOEC Industry Conference took place in Ningbo, regarded as the commercialization inaugural year for China's SOC industry, bringing together more than 180 organizations and 300 experts from the full industrial chain.Jiang Fang,R&D Director of Hydrexia, presented a keynote speech introducing the one-stop hydrogen-electric energy storage solution of RSOC coupled magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen storage.Featuring 6.4 wt% hydrogen density via reversible metal-lattice reaction,magnesium-based storage achieves ideal thermal closed-loop matching with RSOC.Heat released during hydrogen charging satisfies SOEC steam demand for over 90% hydrogen-production efficiency;600-800 ℃ waste heat from SOFC enables hydrogen release without external heat sources, delivering 40%-45% round-trip "power-hydrogen-power" efficiency better than traditional P2G2P.Its long-life compatibility and 20-ft container modular design support flexible deployment for multi-day and cross-season long-duration scenarios such as new-energy consumption,off-grid supply and data-center backup power, working alongside lithium batteries and supercapacitors.

Despite existing bottlenecks covering full-system engineering validation, high RSOC cost and insufficient industry standards,Hydrexia will push forward system verification, accelerate cost reduction and engage in standard formulation. The company aims to provide dispatchable integrated hydrogen-electric solutions, contributing to the construction of China's new-type power system and low-carbon energy transition.

Energy Research Institute is partnering with Hydrexia to develop and demonstrate the integration of a commercial solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system with Hydrexia's metal hydride hydrogen storage technology. The Research Collaboration Agreement was signed today at the World Hydrogen Energy Conference.
The project, Integrated MHX–SOFC Demonstrator: Retrofit and Heat-Driven Hydrogen Supply Using Solid-State Storage, will focus on the subsystem engineering required to connect the two technologies, including hydrogen delivery, thermal management, controls, and balance-of-plant integration.

The demonstrator will use hydrogen released from Hydrexia's metal hydride storage module to operate a commercial SOFC system. As both technologies involve high-temperature operation, the project will evaluate how recoverable heat from the SOFC system can support hydrogen desorption from the metal hydride. This thermal integration has the potential to reduce auxiliary heating requirements and improve overall system efficiency.

Through the collaboration, ERI@N and Hydrexia aim to demonstrate a stable, integrated hydrogen-to-power system and validate the operational and efficiency benefits of coupling solid-state hydrogen storage with commercial SOFC technology.
