@OwenBenjamin @StillerJas85479 @Know_More_News Owen You are ignoring or straw manning my original argument. Please look into correction lines and govt lots. They only exist to compensate for the curvature of the earth. They are not used in topographic surveys. Only for land surveys.

Think Projecting a flat map onto a globe. You can’t do it without wrinkles. That’s effectively what correction lines and govt lots do
@OwenBenjamin They never set out to prove the earth was a globe. They had to adjust for the fact that it is a globe. Otherwise they could not accurately measure the land and place monuments.
@OwenBenjamin Early land surveyors were pioneers tasked with the impossible job of establishing sections on the wild frontier. They were not able to project those flat measurements onto a curved globe without “correcting” every so often. That’s why we have oddball lots on every township
