This #March we continue to highlight the great strides made by #women in the aquaculture sector. So far through the @YISA_Kenya program, 52000+ young women are actively engaged in aquaculture ventures for dignified & fulfilling livelihoods.
We’re excited to partner with @SeafoodResearch to strengthen animal welfare practices across Kenya’s aquaculture VC.
This supports youth enterprises under @YISA_Kenya, farmer training, research with institutions like Maseno University, and market-ready production systems.🐟
Highlights:
• Women’s participation in #aquaculture be co-designed to ensure initiatives reflect lived realities
• Opportunities across the value chain are vast and available for youth to pursue
• Safe spaces are still needed for women to fully exercise agency and leadership
Partners under the @YISA_Kenya program marked #IWD2026 with a webinar on #GiveToGain. 82 listeners stayed through the 2-hour session, with strong interest in #BlackSoldierFly production, a growing pathway for youth and women in sustainable #aquaculture value chains.
Young women are making smart money moves in Black Soldier Fly production; turning feed innovation into dignified livelihoods.
This #IWD2026, we celebrate the changemakers building Kenya’s blue economy from the ground up.

As 2025 comes to a close, we’re grateful for the youth, partners & counties who made the journey meaningful.
Here’s to rest, reflection & a stronger 2026.
#HappyHolidays2025 from all of us at Hydro Victoria!🎄 We resume office on 5th Jan 2026. See you then!
Independence means building our own solutions including local, affordable feed & sustainable aquaculture.
Youth in the YISA program are turning waste → BSF larvae → animal feed → decent income. That’s food independence, powered by young Kenyans 🚀.
Happy #JamhuriDay!
"#BSFfarming isn’t the problem. Negative perceptions are". Youth in Bondo & Rang’ala shared how community once thought ‘bugs & organic waste' can’t pay bills & have since become frequent customers, buying larvae for feed. Perceptions are changing, slowly but surely!#YouthVoices
End-year reflections. Started off in #Homabay yesterday. Today we're in #Siaya listening to youth in #blacksoldierfarming, patrons & other stakeholders sharing what’s working and what needs support ahead of year 3 of the @YISA_Kenya program. Busia, Kakamega & Kisumu, see you 🔜.
On 27th/9/25, we were honoured to host Mr. Felix Juma, Director @HydroVictoriaKe, together with his team at our Innovation and Green Hub. The purpose of the visit was to share our journey of success & explore potential areas of collaboration in building a sustainable community.
Providing key inputs to #BlackSoldierFly farming trainees to advance their production journeys and set them up for success! Onwards @KJamtaka. Mbele sawa!
@YISA_Kenya
We are grateful to @HydroVictoriaKe for their generous support through the donation of 40 crates and a dryer to enhance our Black Soldier Fly production.
Through this initiative, we are committed to ensuring that no waste goes to waste. 1/2 @KisumuCountyKE#JamTakaCares
Kenya imports most of the soya used for #feedproduction, yet we could source that protein locally🤔. 📽️ https://t.co/nmDvDGIkjx
Our focus: train youth to farm BSF larvae, cutting feed costs & boosting local economies. Kazi mkononi, pesa mfukoni.💪
