Indeed. Ask the Taino, original inhabitants of Hispaniola, who were unprepared for European diseases or enslavement. Native American cultures died en masse from smallpox, measles, and influenza, for they had no immunity to these pathogens. The Taino are largely extinct since the 16th century due to introduced European and African peoples.
