Tesla's "Egg of Columbus," demonstrated at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, illustrated a fundamental advance in the transmission and conversion of electrical energy.

Tesla's polyphase system used multiple alternating currents, offset in phase from one another, to produce a continuously rotating magnetic field.

Rather than requiring mechanical switching to create rotation, the changing electrical phases generated rotation within the field itself.

The copper egg responded through electromagnetic induction, spinning and eventually rising onto its axis.

This same principle became the foundation of the AC induction motor and helped establish polyphase alternating current as a practical system for generating, transmitting, and converting electrical power on a large scale.

HISTORIC MOMENT FOR WEST BENGAL!

ONGC has begun commercial crude oil production at the Ashoknagar oilfield in North 24 Parganas, the first consignment of 12,000 litres has already reached Haldia Refinery.

Oil was discovered here in 2018 - Bengal's first-ever oilfield, and the first commercial hydrocarbon find in Eastern India in decades.

For years, the project sat idle, trapped in file-pushing and delayed clearances under the Mamata Banerjee government, even after commercial viability was confirmed way back in 2018.

Within months of the BJP government taking charge, Bengal's own crude is finally flowing to the refinery.

This is what it looks like when a government chooses to unlock Bengal's potential instead of sitting on it.

Public transparency and individual accountability are the operational counterparts. A public ledger lets any participant verify that the same rules were applied to every transaction; cryptographic signatures tie each action to a specific key holder rather than to an opaque institution. Mathematical exactness is what makes the verification possible: deterministic rules, identical ledger state across nodes, and settlement that does not rely on netting, rounding or trapped correspondent balances.

Distributed-ledger systems such as the XRP Ledger already operationalize the cluster: every server applies the same deterministic rules, the resulting state is public and cryptographically hashed, settlement is final in seconds, and balances are exact rather than approximate.

The design therefore satisfies the older divine principles rather than inventing new ones.”

In Summary

Centralized powers and institutional incentives resist the loss of control. Those who lord over money creation, legal interpretation, and public enforcement possess both the means and the motive to redefine and/or obliterate moral constraints as power obstacles.

I never topped my class. I never topped my school. And yet I stood All India Rank 6 in CA CPT, AIR 13 in IPCC, and AIR 10 in CA Final.

Those ranks were not born in comfort. They were born after a child marriage that ended in divorce. I was so helpless I begged my then-husband just to let me study. He agreed only if I first finished the cleaning and every household chore. He beat me almost every day. I fought for that divorce against every odd, including an attempt to end my own life.

What pulled me back was a friend. Neha, a Brahmin girl who had studied at IIT Bombay, recited the Bhagavad Gita to me every night. She explained quantum physics the way she taught college students while working in a corporate job. She gave me study techniques, healing conversations, and a kind of quiet counseling I didn’t know I needed. When we visited ISKCON and I saw the Gita verses on the walls, my heart melted. Tears came because I suddenly understood how those words, and the hidden meanings she used to unpack for me, had been holding me together. That support helped me secure AIR 13 in IPCC.

Then everything broke again. Neha went on a trip, met with a terrible accident, and I rushed to Delhi. I stayed with her till 11 p.m. She told me, “Farzu, it’s already late, go to your room.” I left. At 1 a.m. the call came: she was gone. I spent days replaying every moment we had shared, feeling the depth of a friendship I would never have again. I entered CA Final completely alone—no one to lean on, no shoulder to cry on.

With that emptiness I still applied. I studied harder than I ever had. In a new place I found new friends, used every smart technique and right-brain method Neha had taught me, and became her Ekalavya. I finished CA Final with AIR 10.

I joined one of the best companies. There I met Vedansh, a guy from Bhopal whose thinking was almost the opposite of mine. I fell for him and believed he was the one. Then I casually checked his phone and found chats with thousands of other people—people he had met on Tinder, Bumble and similar apps. Trust broke again.

After that I turned toward the US CPA, completed it, and joined an MNC bank. All of it traces back to my mother. She is the one who helped me escape the marriage and who planted the love of finance in me from childhood. I did this as a gift to her.

The real flex is not the ranks. It is how many times I was knocked down and still held myself together. Along the way I funded around six boys and ten girls who wanted to become CAs but were too poor to try.

That is the story I carry. Not a perfect one. Just one that refused to stay broken.

🚨 JAPAN'S BOND AND CURRENCY CRISIS IS ABOUT TO GET WORSE

Japan's 2 year bond yield just hit a new 31 year high at 1.71%, and USDJPY is climbing back toward 160.

The pressure is coming from inflation that keeps building.

Producer prices rose 7.2% year over year in July, the highest in almost 3.5 years, and Tokyo core inflation has now accelerated for three straight months.

Two forces are keeping that inflation alive.

The Strait of Hormuz closure is keeping oil prices elevated, and a weak yen is making everything Japan imports more expensive.

That is pushing the BOJ toward a rate hike as soon as September, with more hikes likely to follow.

But higher rates create a second problem.

Japan already carries one of the highest debt to GDP ratios in the world, so every hike makes that debt sharply more expensive to service.

And there is no easy way to grow out of it.

Japan's labor force is also shrinking as its birth rate falls, cutting into the country's long term growth right as its borrowing costs rise.

Going dark or running high-risk transits with those ships is a bigger capital and safety bet than doing the same with oil tanker.

Oil can be shuttled and transferred...🇶🇦Qatari LNG still cannot, at scale.

That's why Qatar just extended LNG force majeure by another month, notifying Pakistani buyers cancellations run into October and Bangladesh's beyond September, with Edison in Italy told cancellations extend further still.

The gap between oil and LNG here is real.

Oil tankers are increasingly shuttling through Hormuz or going dark to cross the strait, but Qatar's LNG carriers are scarcer, more valuable, and tied directly to the state producer, making Doha far more cautious after 2 of its LNG vessels were attacked in July.

Hormuz normally carries about a 1/5 of global LNG supply, and the standstill has already pushed European and Asian LNG prices to nearly double prewar levels.

Qatar is keeping its Ras Laffan plant, reduced since a March attack, ready to ramp back up fast if Hormuz ever fully reopens, but with winter approaching, prolonged disruption risks pushing prices even higher.

An incredibly sweet Raksha Bandhan ad from Dabur Real (conceived in-house)! But, like the one I wrote about earlier this week, the brand connect is near zero and is even forced at times (when the juice is shown as part of a juice drinking session, or used as a gift), but the writing gets two things really, really well.

The first is the very fact that an ad actually shows a differently abled child. And the writing placed this girl in the most normal way without drawing attention to her the way Titan did a few months ago (see: https://t.co/HAeDgdrVHK). She is just herself and everyone in the family just accept her the way she is, the way it should be. I could just imagine a similar child identifying herself/himself when they see this ad and feel totally 'seen' and included in the mainstream. That's beautiful.

The second is the fact that despite the ad being largely predictable (I could guess what the little boy was up to, but that's also perhaps a factor of me seeing way too many ads day after day - your mileage may vary), the way he explains why he was doing what he was doing (secretively) is absolutely wonderful. The choice of his reasons is so well written and thought out.

Like that other ad (from earlier this week: https://t.co/xhlIYo7hXo), the brand connect is very weak. You could replace that brand with a tablet/iPad brand or seller/retailer... or a brand that offers internet connectivity (Airtel, Jio, ACT, etc.) and the same narrative would fit in perfectly. Ideally, I'd have loved to see the product being the enabler of the sentiment/emotion depicted in the narrative, but such writing requires a lot more thought from the ground up. And for topical (days) narratives, such expectations seem too much these days.

But what Real does within that limitation is lovely, as in they chose to tell a really heartfelt story in context of Raksha Bandhan.
