@brakeboosted Either Austria really was just bad for us in terms of altitude, rear deg and more cooling louvres or merc about to untap something in sq3 that will punch me back to earth, but my gut is feeling that this might be real, pinch me brother 🥹
@AfonzinnOFC_@brakeboosted I think that was expected, this being a front limited curcuit and a lot cooler track temps. Still a great sign so if we are within 3-4 tenths in quali i would hope the races can produce fun, but we shall see.
Copy, that is what i feared. Let’s hope we remain somewhat competetive at the least. If we are within 3 tenths i would see that as a victory, especially if we have learned from austria and have a decent racecar aswell.
I have no expectations for these next two weekends though. Rather be pleasantly surprised than devastated. Damage limitation until Hungary and monza PU update (which i also have no expectations for)
@brakeboosted Any thoughts to why Merc did not use 8th at all during their laps? Preference for recovery or an indication of the PU not being at full force?
@brakeboosted@MONDOFERRARI_@Firebreqth Would think with how «effective» they were in Austria in mounting it after testing without they might run one car with and one car without start of practise for comparisons? Or do you think it’s bad idea considering only one practise before sprint quali?
I feel like i got somewhat tricked into thinking it was mostly tracks like monza, spa, qatar etc which would be bad bad. It wasn’t until this week i really thought about how the layout of silverstone is just awful for energy recharge. And the posts like yours really put it into perspective.
Like i somewhat think Las Vegas wont be «that» bad because it has very large braking zones at the end of straights and slow corners to recharge before the next.
With jeddah being cancelled i guess silverstone is the first «real» track where you can’t really recouparate from braking for a large part of the lap, Austria was bad but still had some braking.
But yeah, sadly prepared for a very potential awful two next races before Hungary hopefully delivers a baller.
Gonna be looking out for your insights after FP1 and sprint.
No point in having «the best chassie on the grid» if u destroy your tires so you can’t even push in the corners, better to lose a bit more on the straights anyways so you can still push the corners and not fuck the tires after 5 laps. Silvo a bit more front limited though and hopefully a bit cooler so might be better.
Seen the chance of rain creep up for the race? Could become very interesting.
Think if it remains dry and hot most teams will run the 3-stop unless deg is massivly improved, also considering how easy it should be to overtake here. Merc looked to have non-existent deg though so well see what they do, hopefully a second weekend of them doing the 2 and losing out to the 3 lol.
Considering the time russel had before the lift i think Pole was not on the cards, but still a great final run from both. Now it’s all about how deg and pace is tomorrow, hopefully the changes to balance helps with that compared to FP2, and with both up there we can try to be aggresive with strategy to make something happen🤝
Fair, forgot same happened to Lewis in Barcelona and «lost» pole there. Would hope they balance it out a bit so they have some oomph and don’t putter out before the line, but that might be slower or not doable with their engine/software setup.
Good quali my friend, could be an exciting one :)
Seem to have found a better balance, still straightline deficit (much less though) and slight instability breaking, charles struggled to put a lap in with the new soft at the end but looked good when he hooked it up so slight work and both should be pretty good. For the most part seems like a possible 4 team race for pole, redbull and mclaren seemed strong aswell. Russel and Kimi still slightly ahead but there is a dream unless merc have been hiding more engine than the others.
A part of me hopes it is just a lot higher fuel loads, but there are some really bad understeer -> snap oversteer especially in sector 3, and both seemed to struggle a bit with turn 3 braking. Hopefully they make good changes for tomorrow.
You seen the data for power in FP2? Seems like Ferrari are quite a bit down and i have a hard time knowing if that is a low mapping or genuine, but i’d hope the latter considering a small step with ADUO1 and the fact that ferrari seemed a lot better in Barcelona compared to Merc than here.
Ferrari have stopped being friday champions, and run with more fuel and less power as we now can get results on saturday and sunday and don’t need to pretend to be quick, just like barcelona. We move in silence and then we strike.
(I am delusional)
If Fred is smart and Ferrari have their version of the diffusertrim with special edges (like mercedes) ready, they bring it to Austria and tell the FIA that either it is banned for Austria and nobody uses them, and if merc get a «grace period» to take them off then ferrari will use it for the same grace period.
It’s time to play the game 🕵🏿♂️
