“But what is government itself, but the greatest of all reflections on human nature? If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. . .

Europe doesn’t get to have a view that counts for anything if they are going to rely on the U.S. to solve the problem for them.
And the bipartisan view with regard to Putin has always been that we aren’t going to do anything to seriously oppose him.
Bush, Obama, and Biden never stood up to him. And now you want Trump to do something they couldn’t under a much more difficult set of circumstances that those three helped create.
@RepDonBacon If Mark Carney knows how to end the war, why doesn’t he go do it?
The answer starts with the fact that Putin understands strength, and Canada is not strong.
So Canada and the rest of the world will wait for the U.S. to try to figure it out.
Real quick Gregg, tell us which ticket he joined in 2016!
You spend your days denouncing Trump but you think the guy who joined his ticket would have made a great President. You should, at the very least, think Pence has a total lack of foresight and judgment based on your own standards but you also think he would make a great president.
You have no idea how ridiculous this makes you seem, do you?
Was George Bush a Republican?
"I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very straightforward and trustworthy. We had a very good dialogue. I was able to get a sense of his soul; a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country."
He said that in June 2001. Was Putin a KGB trained, blood stained autocrat yet? Yes, but George Bush was part of “your” Republican Party that continuously sold the country out, so you’ll ignore that while pretending that Trump isn’t carrying on a long tradition by Republican and Democrat presidents of normalizing Putin to some extent, while also failing to acknowledge that Putin didn’t invade anyone during Trump’s first term even though he did under Bush, Obama, and Biden. But Trump can’t clean up the mess they let happen, so it’s all Trump’s fault. People like you are why the Republican Party has failed spectacularly for almost 3 decades now.
@JonahDispatch Should America change the way it engages with NATO because of Europe’s choices? Or would you only use that as a reasonable explanation for our allies?
I’m not part of the dating scene anymore so it doesn’t really matter to me. But I’ve never met a woman in real life who said or even hinted that they expect the man to arrange transportation unless the transportation involves the man picking them up himself. I think it’s also a city vs non-city thing. If you live in the suburbs and have a car most people aren’t looking for another form of transportation to get around locally.
I’m not interested in debating what the Bible teaches and I didn’t do that.
I asked how someone who says that it teaches to sell all your stuff can save money to buy a new car. I’m asking how his interpretation (that I disagree with) that he preaches fits with his own actions.
The difference is obvious.
@RobertMSterling@skylarromines The worst part is that this exchange makes them both seem like pretentious jerks. They could’ve been perfect for each other.
@shagbark_hick If Christ wasnt joking about all that “sell everything you have” talk as you say, when are you going to sell your new vehicle and your cheap house? What will you do with the 💰 when you do so? Give it all away? Or save it like you said you did? Which one did Jesus have in mind?
@shagbark_hick Also interesting that you discuss all the money you say you were able to save and buy a vehicle debt free. Many would describe that as wealth. Why didn’t you give the money away - as you say Jesus teaches - instead of buying a vehicle with it?
@shagbark_hick Who said I was offended? I find you interesting but - for example - the idea that God requires poverty, which you said in a recent post, is silly.
And if I thought that were true, I’d feel like a hypocrite using a product owned by richest person on earth to make my life possible
@shagbark_hick I can hunt and grow my own food if I need to, but I don’t want to so I thank them.
You cant build the internet, X, or the vehicle you’re enjoying or raise the funds via debt or equity to do so. The people who live in the way you criticize enable your way of life. You’re welcome.
@mattyglesias Sure, if you ignore the fact that Capitol Hill is full of unpaid interns and staffers making poverty level wages that act the same way for backbench, totally unknown, powerless members of Congress and everyone thinks it’s totally normal and the way things should be.
