Shining a spotlight on one of our volunteers 💙
For more than 40 years, Mike Redfern-Jones has dedicated his time to volunteering with IAM RoadSmart and the North Wales Group of Advanced Motorists - supporting drivers, sharing knowledge, and helping people build confidence behind the wheel.
Inspired to give back after completing his own Advanced Driver course in 1985, Mike has spent decades guiding and encouraging others as an Observer and Secretary, helping road users become safer on the roads.
This year, his extraordinary commitment was recognised with an MBE in the King’s 2026 New Year Honours list for services to road safety. 👏

IAM RoadSmart in the news 📺
A record 5.6 million penalty points were handed to drivers last year, driven largely by speeding and other offences 🚗📸
The UK is believed to have more speed cameras per mile than anywhere else in Europe — but are they helping to make the roads safer?
Speaking to Channel 5's Vanessa show, Nicholas Lyes said: “Speed cameras are never popular — especially when you get caught by one. But they do save lives. Research shows the cameras currently in place have prevented between 350 and 750 deaths or serious injuries. The evidence is there.”

Dust off your Leathers 🏍️
At the end of April on a beautiful sunny morning in Knockhill, 77 customers attended ‘Dust off your Leathers’ - an event aimed at riders returning to the road after the winter season.
The day offered the chance to practise key techniques in a safe, controlled environment away from the pressures of public roads. Working with qualified instructors, participants were able to develop core riding skills such as cornering, overtaking, and braking.
The event was funded by Transport Scotland and in partnership with Police Scotland and Road Safety Scotland.
Women riders within our community are mentors, Masters, Observers and volunteers. 💜

IAM RoadSmart in the news 🗞️
🚨 IAM RoadSmart has launched a new petition calling for wire rope crash barriers to be removed from UK roads by the end of the decade.
The charity says 143 miles of cable barriers are still in use on roads in England, with similar systems remaining in Wales and Scotland. 🛣️
Policy Director Nicholas Lyes said, “These barriers should be replaced with safer Motorcyclist Protection Systems featuring protected posts.” 🏍️
