Sir Keir Starmer has resigned — farewell to our chief recruiting sergeant.

Since coming to power in July 2024, Sir Keir has led the most authoritarian government in more than a generation, unleashing an unprecedented assault on free speech. Indeed, he seemed determined to make social media censorship his legacy and tried desperately — at breakneck speed — to curb our ancient right to trial by jury.

Starmer has been a more successful recruiting sergeant for the Free Speech Union than a Prime Minister. Before the 2024 election, our membership stood at 14,000. Today, it exceeds 45,000.

But there is little reason to believe things will improve under his likely successor, Andy Burnham. It was reported over the weekend that he is taking soundings from actor Hugh Grant about Leveson 2.0 and bringing the free press under state regulation.

Josh Simons — the former MP for Makerfield, who stepped down for Burnham, and the former head of Labour Together — is set for a plum job in Downing Street. The FSU recently exposed the shadowy Labour Misinformation Mafia that targeted journalists and others who challenged Starmer’s technocratic managerialism.

Andy is also keen to press ahead with Starmer’s draft Conversion Therapy Ban Bill, which would criminalise parents who ‘misgender’ their confused adolescent children or withhold consent for them to embark on irreversible medical pathways.

Sir Keir gave off a curtain-twitching, head-of-compliance vibe that put the fear of God into anyone who cares about free speech, while Andy Burnham is a bit more blokeish. But we expect the King of the North to start wearing the authoritarian lanyard over his Everton top within days of taking power.

Has Shabana Mahmood lost her mind?

This week, she is set to announce a ‘Homes for Ukraine’-style migrant scheme for conflicts all around the world.

For context, that scheme took in over 200,000 Ukrainians.

This must not stand.

What nations do Labour have in mind?

Sudan. You know who is Sudanese? Deng Majek, the illegal migrant who murdered Rhiannon Whyte - stabbing her 23 times with a screwdriver.

And Mohamed Harun, a refugee who raped a woman and told the judge sentencing him “fuck England”. In fact, over a third of Sudanese criminals in prison here have committed sex offences.

Mahmood also wants to prioritise Eritrea.

We’ve had rapists and attempted murderers from Eritrea these past few years. Eritreans here are more than 20 times more likely to account for sexual offence convictions than British citizens.

No doubt Labour will open the floodgates to thousands of Palestinians too.

Labour say they’ll cap the number of people in the scheme at the tens of thousands. But, over time, they’ll all bring in their extended families. The ‘chain migration’ will be catastrophic.

It's all modelled on a Canadian scheme that's let 400,000 migrants in, and nearly 100,000 in the last five years alone. In fact, the Canadian Government have paused their scheme because it’s so unpopular.

Labour have no mandate whatsoever for this. If Burnham wants one, he must call a general election.

The British people have made it abundantly clear: we don’t want anymore migration like this.

When it comes to so-called ‘asylum seekers’ from nations very different to our own, we are long past full.

A Reform government will reverse this ridiculous scheme.

Or, better yet, the whole thing should be cancelled now.

In yet another Orwellian move, the Government announced in a green paper this week that it wants to decide what news people can and cannot see, with plans to push approved outlets to the top of social media feeds.

Ministers should not be deciding which news sources the public read — especially in an era when three-quarters of under-25s say they get their news from social media.

As written in The Times, “In a state-sponsored ­regime in which inconvenient news was pushed out of view, would the grooming gangs scandal or the excesses of transgender ideology ever have come to light? You shouldn’t choose to trust ­everything you read online; but you shouldn’t trust the state to make the choice for you, either”.

This is dystopian.
