Four out of every 10 births in #Iowa are covered by Medicaid — this move would provide moms and babies the health care they need for a full year! #AmericanRescuePlan
This is why we ❤️ #Medicaid — and will keep fighting to improve and strengthen it for the 1 in 3 Iowa kids who depend on it! https://t.co/LHXGGNvzni #MedicaidMatters
Today, Medicaid turns 55! From vision screenings to chemotherapy, Medicaid helps millions of children and adults nationwide, including thousands of Iowans. Let's continue to strengthen this essential health insurance program! #HappyBirthdayMedicaid
That’s a wrap! Many thanks to everybody who joined our chat this afternoon. It’s clear @SenJoniErnst & @chuckgrassley can take steps THIS WEEK to ensure we all get through this crisis together. #PutPeopleFirst
@childfampolicy A11. When schools and cities and the state lay off public workers, the lost paychecks and spending ripple through the Iowa economy. #PutPeopleFirst
Q12. With 1-in-10 Iowans laid off—and many businesses still operating at limited capacity—inaction will only worsen the crisis. What can @SenJoniErnst & @chuckgrassley do to help our state and local governments avoid harmful budget cuts? #PutPeopleFirst
Q11. Moving on to state relief! This economic downturn is far worse than the Great Recession—and Iowa faces a $615 billion shortfall this year and next. How will this hurt Iowans if nothing is done? #PutPeopleFirst
A10. One important step @SenJoniErnst and @ChuckGrassley must take in expanding and strengthening SNAP is require that states drop any work requirements that are cruely enforced to receive assistance.
We’re in a pandemic, people can’t work!! #PutPeopleFirst
@childfampolicy@SenJoniErnst@ChuckGrassley A10. SNAP helps Iowans with disabilities and their families facing economic hardship afford groceries and put food on the table. A temporary 15% boost—a modest $25 increase/person—will help keep Iowans fed AND put $$ into local economies. #PutPeopleFirst
A10. Temporarily boosting SNAP benefits by 15% would both help people struggling with food insecurity and support the economy. A similar increase passed in 2009 helped to keep nearly one million Americans out of poverty in 2010 alone. #PutPeopleFirst
Q10. What makes the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, one of the best tools Congress can leverage during this economic crisis?
What should @SenJoniErnst & @ChuckGrassley include in the next relief bill? #PutPeopleFirst
A9. In 2019, total #SNAP benefits dispersed in Polk County, Iowa, amounted to $83.6 million. That amount was over 21 times the size of DMARC's total budget in FY19 ($3.9 million). Private charity simply cannot fill the gap. #PutPeopleFirst
By expanding Medicaid, people who may not have qualified for that program can be more likely to gain access to wellness care they may not have been able to afford. #PutPeopleFirst
A9. Food banks and pantries across the nation are providing food to millions of people, but cannot do this work alone. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (#SNAP) is our best tool for fighting food insecurity, and we should temporarily expand benefits. #PutPeopleFirst
Q9. Let's talk #SNAP. Iowans are struggling to make ends meet and put food on the table. Our food pantries and banks are doing everything they can to meet the tremendous need. What else can be done to help folks access food? #PutPeopleFirst
A8. @SenJoniErnst and @chuckgrassley should push for an increase in federal Medicaid funding by at least 12 percentage points and preserve the disenrollment freeze. It’s never been more important to keep Iowans enrolled in Medicaid coverage. #PutPeopleFirst
We need @SenJoniErnst & @chuckgrassley to #PutPeopleFirst by passing urgent relief that:
✅ Stops states from placing barriers to accessing Medicaid/CHIP
✅ Increases FMAP by 12 percentage pts to ensure states have resources to respond to the current health crisis
Q8. What should @SenJoniErnst & @chuckgrassley include in the relief bill to ensure Iowans facing tough times can access health care when they need it? #PutPeopleFirst
@childfampolicy A7. An increase to the FMAP would help Iowans with disabilities and families stay covered, even when the state faces a budget shortfall caused by current economics. #PutPeopleFirst#CripTheVote
