#BreakingNews: Bangladesh's Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will be visiting Malaysia, instead of China, although it was highly anticipated that he would finalize the Teesta Project with Beijing. According to a source, China is unwilling to enter into any large project with Bangladesh unless it walks-out of multiple agreements including trade agreement (which is termed by many as slavery agreement) and forthcoming agreements on military cooperation.
Bangladeshi Islamist MP issues anti-BJP statement!
Nahid Islam, MP, the head of the anti-India 'National Citizen Party (NCP)' stated, persecution of religious minority groups, including Muslims will begin following the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during West Bengal assembly elections. He said, "Minorities in West Bengal are not safe now".
Nahid Islam believes that in such a situation, Bangladesh's responsibility has increased further, and it must ensure and secure the coexistence of Hindus, Muslims and other religions in the country.
The National Citizen Party, founded under direct patronization of Muhammad Yunus is a part of the Jamaat-e-Islami led coalition. Earlier, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Muhammad Nurul Huda through a video statement urged Mamata Banerjee to "declare war against Delhi" and pronounce West Bengal as an "independent state" following her election defeat.
Huda further said, "17 crore Muslims of Bangladesh" would stand with Mamata if such a move was taken.
Pleased to host FM Khalilur Rahman of Bangladesh and his delegation this afternoon.
We discussed strengthening our bilateral relationship in its various facets. Also exchanged views on regional and global developments.
Agreed to remain in close touch.

@POTUS ...you are just simply playing with the nature. You are just a threat to entire human race. You called bastard iranians. Now i tell you, one thing. You are a bastard too @realDonaldTrump
It is interesting to contrast the public narratives regarding Bangladesh's Foreign Minister's visit to India. The Bangladesh side is portraying this as a "goodwill visit" and a "stopover" en route to Mauritius. Meanwhile, the Indian side is portraying the trip as an "official visit" intended to reset ties.
No doubt the difference in the public posturing reflects domestic political realities in each country. It is in the BJP's interest to declare victory vis a vis Bangladesh post-Feb 12 while the BNP government needs to proceed with caution given continued anti-Indian sentiment in the country.
Also, from Bangladesh it is notable that the Bangladesh FM will meet with the Indian Petroleum Minister, highlighting the importance of securing energy supplies during the current Middle East crisis. It is also interesting that the PM's foreign affairs advisor Humayun Kabir will be accompanying the FM.
A reset in Indo-Bangladesh relations is in the interests of each country, and it is important to define the new terms for the bilateral relationship post-Hasina. At the same time, as much as Indian commentators would like for Bangladesh to forget New Delhi's past support for Hasina's regime, the presence of the former PM and her entourage in India continues to cast a shadow over the relationship. With a challenging domestic agenda to pursue, there are limits to how much political capital PM Tarique can expend on the India relationship.
Many of Bangladesh's current political leaders, to include the Prime Minister, Cabinet Members, and Treasury and Opposition MPs were victims of human rights abuses by the 2009-24 Awami League Government. They should have a personal and political interest in ensuring that such abuses never are allowed to occur again.
The efforts by the Interim Government to strengthen institutions to prevent future human rights violations were among its most important legacies. These include the National Human Rights Commission Ordinance and the Enforced Disappearance Protection and Remedy Ordinance. These Ordinances were the product of broad consultation within Bangladesh and with international partners.
It is therefore of greatest concern that I receive reports that the Government intends to make fundamental changes to both ordinances, or even allow them to lapse. This would represent a huge step backwards and call into question the Government's commitment to promoting human rights.
I can understand why those who would be subject to increased scrutiny and possible future liability for abuses would want to weaken institutions designed to protect human rights. But I struggle to understand why a Govenment that is only in power because of the sacrifices of those who fought against a brutal authoritarian regime would side with human rights violators rather than their victims.
@trahmanbnp why some honest secretariat had been #OSD by interim regim? @HMahmudSharif69 investigate about him. Last interim regim ( some corrupted) ask him to join by sponsor him. He disagreed. Use your #DFIF#NSI to clarify about him. He is one of the bestest.
