This cue was called “Winnebago Blues”. The score is 99% non-vocal, but this one called for a Bluesman to talk/sing some “truth”. Like BB King….or ZZ Top …or LL Bean.
LL Bean is my favorite blues artist.
Since this was my 1st time writing to picture, every time I looked down from the screen @ my hands/instrument, I felt like I was cheating & doing something wrong. Someone tell me how you play/engineer/watch a movie @ the same time. I can barely talk on the phone while driving
Im a fan of the style from the late-70s & early-80s. My refs for this score were from that period. Sound like Escape from New York? Top Gun? IDK. Its fun referencing other work in convo w/ my collaborators, before I start rcrding. Once I get going I dont listen to anything else.
I had recently acquired a new toy - the @Fender#SixStringBass, a la Jack Bruce of Cream. I was thinking about Twin Peaks & low-tuned Baritone guitars, and decided I wanted to write lots of the theme melodies for the movie on this under-appreciated instrument.
A while back my director friend asked if I knew how to score a feature film for a major studio… I lied and said yes. In the dawn of January 2021, while still firmly mid-pandemic, and my baby still firmly in the newborn stage, I started the composing gig.

@diplo and @leonbridges new single, “Horizon,” is out now on all streaming platforms and @spotify’s #NewMusicFriday playlist! I had a hand in crafting this tune during the writing process. Give it a listen and watch them mime to my guitar part!
