ہمارے بچوں کے سکولوں کے راستے : بحرین سے مشرق کی جانب وادی درال ہے۔ اس وادی میں کئئ گاؤں ہیں اور ہزاروں کی آبادی رہتی ہے۔ بحرین سے کوئی پندرہ کلومیٹر کے فاصلے پر اس وادی میں آرین گاؤں کے شروع میں یہ پل ہے۔ یہاں راستہ انتہائی خطرناک بلک�� نہ ہونے کے برابر ہے۔ کوئی چار ہفتے پہلے اسی جگہ سے سبحان دریا درال کی موجوں کی نذر ہوگئے تھے۔ اس کی عمر ۱۲ سال تھی اور وہ جبران کا بیٹا تھا۔ یہی وہ راستے ہیں جن سے گزر کر یئاں اوپر گاؤں کے بچے نیچے سکول اتے ہیں، خواتین اس راستے سے جاتی ہیں اور بوڑھوں کی قسمت میں بھی یہی راستے ہیں۔ حکومت یا کوئی غیر سرکاری تنظیم یہاں اب تک کوئی راستہ بناسکی نہ پل۔ چند سال پہلے یہاں کے اوپر گاؤں کے دو بچے ریحانہ اور اسکا بھائی دریا میں گرے تھے۔ کب تک یہ چسم و چراغ گل ہوتے جائیں گے!!

WeMountains @MountainsWe is an online magazine for, on, of and by the mountain communities of High Asia including North Pakistan.
I have been able to manage it for more than 04 years now and during this period I have also been able to edit and publish an Urdu version of this magazine under the name of Sarbuland. I am mainly supported by Idara Baraye Taleem wa Taraqi-IBT @IBTSwat till now.
We are determined to continue it for future. We are now trying to give it a better look online and for this we need your financial support as well as suggestions.
I am really grateful and thankful of the scholars in our north who have been regularly contributing their essays and papers to this magazine. It has now been a well quoted magazine internationally. We need to go with it more professionally now and for that I seek your support.

@mqasim04 @zubairtorwali @IBTSwat Kohistani isn't a language at all. Since these people live in the mountains as Tehsil Bahrain has the mountain region of Swat, therefore, this ‘Kohistani’ name is imposed on them by the people living in down Swat. Nonetheless, they've their own Dardic languages.

In many cases, especially in the post-colonial era when neocolonialism is spread all over, cultural assimilation does not necessarily need settlement of the new population on the territories of the dominated ones to change their culture. This could happen with mass media, education, power dynamics, state policies, technology, economic opportunities, and so on. One language or a couple of languages are provided with the tools of domination and are imposed on other languages. This is common everywhere and is more rigorous in states where the ‘nation building’ project is still going.

Inspired by the Pushtun and Sindhi culture days I would like to suggest that we, the mountain communities of Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Kohistan, Swat and Dir need to have a #DardicCulture day and it could be the day of spring solstice, probably 22 March every year!

شادی کے بعد ”پدنور یا پدما“ کی رسم ادا کی جاتی ہے۔ دلہن کو شادی کے کچھ عرصہ بعد میکے بھیجا جاتا ہے۔ جو میکے میں مہینہ یا کم و بیش عرصہ گزار کر آتی ہے۔ پدنور سے پہلے لڑکی میکے میں قدم نہیں رکھ سکتی۔

بارات کو مقامی زبان میں”جین“ اور باراتیوں کو”جینیأ/جینی“ کہا جاتا ہے۔ شادی میں جو مبارکباد کی رقم یا دیگر تحفے دیے جاتے ہیں ان کو بھی جین کہتے ہیں۔ پہلے اس طرح دوستوں، رشتہ داروں یا گاؤں والوں کی طرف سے دُولہے کو جین کی رقم دینے کی رسم عام تھی لیکن گزشتہ تیس سالوں میں اس کو حرام قرار دیا گیا اور اب یہ رسم ناپید ہوچکی ہے۔ دُلہن کے گھر سے اس کے زیورات اور دیگر چیزیں چمڑے کی ایک تھیلی میں ڈال کر اس کے سسرال لایا جاتا تھا۔ اس تھیلی کو ”بیگیِل“ کہا جاتا تھا۔ اب اس کی جگہ سوٹ کیس نے لی ہے

The Swat based research, advocacy and publishing institute Idara Baraye Taleem wa Taraqi-IBT is going to hold a 2-3 days symposium of the mountain communities of North Pakistan in the spring of the coming year 2024.. Details and call for discussion papers will be announced soon but scholars from the region and on the region can submit their papers abstracts any time via [email protected] on the themes given. Discussions and papers of the symposium will be published in he #WeMounatain سربلند journal in both English and Urdu.

Finally the Peshawar High Court gave its verdict in our favour for inclusion of #Torwali #Gawri and #Gujari in the national census. Next step is to get these languages as well as #Khowar passed by the #CCI and also to include them in the primary education. #PBS #digitalcensus
