detachment doesn't mean to cut them off. it's about removing your expectations and fully embracing their presence without any strings attached. you'll know you're detached when you can fully enjoy their presence without fearing their absence.
that's why you gotta forgive yourself, and mind you forgiveness is for you not for them because everyone is all out for themselves. Difference is you can admit it to yourself.
