LOL, permitting reform is literally the part Republicans always said they agreed with.
Go on then Republicans, vote to shut the government down over *energy deregulation*, of all things.
There’s no question that Trump desperately needs experienced, first-rate federal criminal defense attorney.
It’s remarkable that a wealthy former President can’t find a single lawyer fitting that description who will take him on as a client.
This is a bizarre argument insofar as one need not trust the FBI about anything if Mr. Trump admits he had the documents in question.
It's the kind of argument you end up making if you begin with the conclusion that no prosecution should go forward and work backwards.
The most bizarre development of the past week is Democrats and liberals' sudden, unquestioning trust in law enforcement and the FBI. This is the FBI we're talking about, an agency that spent years targeting American Muslims post-9/11. And did people forget about the Comey letter?
And if so - yes. That's true. No matter what, a huge part of the country will view what happens next as illegitimate.
But there's nothing that anyone can do to change that, so the thing to do is just do the right thing, in good faith.
If that's prosecuting Trump, because...
What's truly bizarre, @shadihamid, is the invention of defenses for Trump that he isn't using himself.
Right now, the only open question is whether we still enforce the law, even if the target is popular. That's it, and nothing about that requires "trusting law enforcement".
This is such a painfully bad take.
Do I have "unquestioning trust in law enforcement and the FBI"? No.
TRUMP HAS NEVER DENIED HAVING THE DOCUMENTS IN QUESTION.
His only excuses have been variations on "law, schmaw, I do what I fucking want, and that's allowed"
It is then that one veteran looks to the man next to him and spits with rage: "We've been waiting here, freezing all day, and those damned Jews got to go home first!"
I'm reminded of an old "joke."
In the Soviet Union, people lined up early in the morning to get bread. They waited hours and hours. But the authorities would eventually come to realize they weren't going to have enough for everyone.
Another hour passes. "Due to limited stock, we will only be giving bread to members of the Red Army today."
The line winnows again and again until only a few wounded veterans remain.
The officer comes out and apologizes. "We have no bread, I'm afraid you'll have to go home."
It was truly a privilege to attend #ILEC2022. What an inspiring group of people talking about incredibly important things, all crammed into a single weekend!
