@JamesHandscombe I thought this was an excellent piece and chimes very much with many conversations I had in summer, thank you. It's far too easy to take the emotionally placating route.
I do think we messed up in not having a hybrid CA/algorithm based grade but that's another argument.

@imagineinquiry @teacherhead Point being we could give them all A's but it is useless as a measure if everyone else has an A. Speak to the countless students paying for a BSc to do a job that that used to need ALevels. Person with unmoderated 2020 grade 5s vs 2019 Grade 5 student going for a job. Fair?

@imagineinquiry @teacherhead Ideological but proven time and again to not be accurate. Teacher's are biased. Makes a nice ending for those involved but leads to grade inflation.

There's a lot of strong, and conflicting, opinions about process. I thinking the junction of the debate happens at the point population statistics (uncertainty, probabilities, accuracy) meets an individual's anecdotal outcomes. Unfortunately, for that person, it's all important.

@FrankWNorris Total agree with AS and I preferred the modular system (despite obv constant exam foci).
Where we have issues is when final grade is weighted heavily on subjective opinion. Exams not perfect but I'll take them over any one persons' opinion and their bias.
