AGLAY (Gingoog, Misamis Oriental)

The Higaonon plant and eat aglay as an alternative to rice. After drying under the sun and separating the grain from the chaff, aglay can be boiled like porridge or steamed like rice.

Aglay is also used in making traditional wine called agkud. There is a belief that one cannot hurt an animal or another person while eating aglay, otherwise one might grow warts on their body.

Strong rains, sustained winds, and heavy flooding damaged the houses and farms of a total of 235 Manobo families in Bislig, Surigao del Sur.
