In 2025, ICCWC supported 140 countries in strengthening their responses to wildlife and forest crime through capacity-building, technical assistance, operational support and international cooperation.

Countries made progress in using ICCWC tools and services, enhancing multi-agency collaboration and turning strategic commitments into concrete enforcement action.

Through the combined expertise of its five partner organizations, @CITES, @INTERPOL_EC, @UNODC_ENV, the @WBG_ClimateEnv and the @WCO_OMD, ICCWC is helping strengthen criminal justice systems and build a more coordinated global response to wildlife crime.

Criminal networks exploit the connectivity and anonymity of the online world.

As wildlife traffickers increasingly use online platforms to facilitate illegal trade, authorities must continue adapting their tools, techniques and cooperation efforts to detect, disrupt and deter wildlife crime in the digital age.

A milestone in tackling crimes that affect the environment.

At #UNTOC2026 States Parties adopted a resolution to establish an ad hoc committee to develop a new protocol under UNTOC.

Building on years of experience in helping countries address these crimes, @UNODC stands ready to support the process ahead.

Found across the mountains of Central and South Asia, snow leopards face threats from poaching and illegal wildlife trade, with their skins, bones and other body parts targeted for illicit markets.

Wildlife crime threatens biodiversity and fuels criminal networks that operate across borders. ICCWC supports countries in strengthening investigations, enhancing cooperation, and disrupting wildlife trafficking networks.

💰 Illicit profits fuel wildlife crime.

#DidYouKnow? Criminals involved in wildlife crime often use money laundering techniques to conceal the proceeds of their illegal activities and integrate them into the legitimate economy.

By following financial trails, investigators can identify key actors, uncover criminal networks, and target the profits that drive wildlife crime.

Wildlife trafficking, corruption and drug trafficking may have more in common than we think.

At #UNTOC13, we discussed how these crimes intersect in the Caribbean, with perspectives from governments, prosecutors and law enforcement experts.

Understanding these links can help uncover the wider criminal networks that threaten biodiversity, deplete natural resources and deprive coastal communities of livelihoods and income.

Wildlife Crime = Biodiversity Loss

Every illegally traded animal or plant species represents more than a single loss. Wildlife crime drives species decline, disrupts ecosystems and threatens the biodiversity that communities and economies depend on.

Illegal wildlife trade threatens wildlife and human health.

The capture, transport and sale of wild animals can increase opportunities for pathogens to spread between wildlife, domestic animals and people. At the same time, wildlife crime contributes to biodiversity loss and ecosystem disruption. Protecting wildlife helps protect both planetary and human health.

Migratory birds cross thousands of kilometres and countless borders. Wildlife crime does too.

Every year, migratory birds connect countries, ecosystems and communities through their remarkable journeys. Yet along their flyways, many face threats from illegal killing, poisoning, trapping and trafficking.

This #WorldMigratoryBirdDay, we are reminded that protecting migratory birds requires international cooperation, strong enforcement, and collective action against wildlife crime. Together, we can help safeguard their journeys across borders and generations.
