Trumpet star Lee Morgan was killed by his common-law wife in '72. This doc is a love letter to Lee & Helen & the music that brought them together. On Criterion
@leausonataum My DM's don't work, my apologies. Below is Lee Morgan, a jazz trumpeter. If you are so inclined, maybe watch the movie, "I Called Him Morgan" after listening to this song once or twice or 3X.
Enjoy:)

Happy birthday to one of the greatest. ❤️ This album gets me every time. A genuine emotional roller coaster. (Five years ago Gil Scott-Heron’s estate wanted me to direct a documentary about him. Wherever that project is today I hope and wish a heartfelt doc will be made.)
Stoke Newington & Dalston, March 29, 2026. Visited old friend Val Wilmer, bought books at Cafe Oto, expanded my knitted vest collection at thrift store, met up with A Century In Sound dir after Rio Cinema screening (2 Barbican dates added). Notable escape attempt from dark times.

RIP Frederick Wiseman and thank you for your films. Great filmmaker and a giant of an example of what it means to maintain full control over your creative work. Bought these from his distribution company Zipporah Films that he created to distribute his own docs. Love and respect.
Lee Morgan was one of the greatest trumpeters of all time, but his young life was stopped short by a toxic romance with a woman who saved him, then shot him dead.
