ICOS Germany held its annual meeting at @MPI_BGC. Lots of informative talks around domain-specific topics, e.g. recent developments of the G3W Initiative of WMO or ecosystem disturbances. A highlight was the visit of the ICOS Flask and Calibration Lab - thanks to the FCL team!
PhD position available at Thünen Institute of Climate-Smart Agriculture in Braunschweig, Germany. Interested in working with eddy-covariance data from agricultural sites? Passionate about field work? Curious about carbon and nitrogen cycling? Check the posting and apply!
Land carbon uptake vs. albedo - New paper out by Alex Graf et al. on "Joint optimization of land carbon uptake and albedo can help achieve [...] cooling effects" including many site-years from ICOS stations.

Field crews of ICOS Germany gathered at Gebesee crop site for exchanging technical details about site operation and getting updated on recent developments in agricultural practices...and a brief history of tractors and harvesters.🤩Thanks to all participants and the local farmer!
It is this time of the year... with sunflower at ICOS crop site DE-Geb!
Gebesee field crew in action - GAI and vegetation sampling for Leaf Mass Area and Nutrient Analysis.
👍😎🌻
In the summer, trees are able to compensate the emissions so the site becomes a carbon sink during the daytime. For the rest of the time, however, this is the opposite. (4/5)
Thank you to the incredible Gebesee crew for your hard work with greenhouse gas measurements! It was a pleasure to visit the site 🌻 Stay tuned for an upcoming #ExploreICOS video!
Recently there have been alarming signs of the Gebesee site losing carbon (based on eddy covariance and harvest data) despite frequent organic fertilization. More on that can be read in FLUXES vol 2: https://t.co/JtD77Bwybm
Welcome to the ICOS station Gebesee in Germany! Gebesee is one of the longest-running eddy covariance cropland sites in the ICOS network, collecting data for 22 years.
FLUXES, the European Greenhouse Gas Bulletin is out! 🌍 This latest issue of #FLUXES explores the potential and limitations of nature-based solutions for carbon removal from a scientific perspective, focusing on land ecosystems and the ocean.
