To manage #ICP you need to know PEAK bile acid concentrations.

Fasting before bile acid tests captures bile acids at their LOWEST.

So unless you are advising women fast for the duration of their #pregnancy don't tell them to fast for these tests!

There was definitely a lack of information for me postnatally around #intrahepaticcholestasisofpregnancy So fortunate I found @icpsupport as I'm now aware of potential longer term #health implications #NotJustPregnancy #contraception #HormoneReplacementTherapy

Mild itch does not necessarily mean low #bileacid concentrations. I had mild itch in both pregnancies, but much lower bile acids the second time round. Regular, non-fasting bile acid tests are essential to monitor #risk in #ICP #DontIgnoreTheItch

Increasing the threshold for diagnosing #IntrahepaticCholestasisofPregancy to ≥19μmol/L is a welcome step. The increased risk of #stillbirth in #ICP causes a great deal of anxiety for expectant #parents. Less diagnoses means fewer families worrying about stillbirth unnecessarily
