The Initiative for Diabetes and Hypertension Control is an endeavor geared towards improving the livelihoods of people living with diabetes and hypertension
As part of our commitment to fighting non-communicable diseases, IDHC conducted free blood pressure and glucose screenings , providing dozens of participants with essential health checks and education on hypertension and diabetes.
IDHC was honored to take part in the SLENU Women in Action Walk for Health held on August 2nd, 2025. The event, which brought together Soerra leonean women in the Gambia and community members, aimed to promote physical activity and raise awareness about health and well-being.

Excited to have screened over 150 individuals in Perai Tenda, Upper River Region,The Gambia. Educating people is a great step in fighting the silent killers, we deemed it necessary to dig into the topic of both Diabetes and hypertension ,
Recognizing the symptoms early, adopting a balanced diet, staying active, and prioritizing regular medical check-ups are essential steps in preventing and controlling diabetes.
For World Diabetes Day, the key takeaway is that diabetes can be managed and often prevented with awareness, early diagnosis, and healthy lifestyle changes.
November 14th yearly marks an important milestone in the journey of every diabetic , knowing they aren't in the fight alone and the world watches out for them.

A symposium and free Diabetes screening would follow suit.

*IHDC SIGNS MOU WITH THE NATIONAL NUTRITION AGENCY (NaNA)*
The initiative for Diabetes and hypertension control IDHC on the 5th of June, 2024, signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Nutrition Agency.
This MOU envisions a malnutrition free Gambia that assures a healthy and sustainable living for all and aims to improve the Gambian population’s nutritional status, especially that of the most vulnerable groups.
